Hello all,
Just thought you guys might be interested, I spoke with a car security specialist about tracking devices and they told me about a company called 'Asset Assured'and i thought i would give them a buzz to find out more. Apparently the cost is only £399 fitted, and the good bit - no monthly charges http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif and are Thatcham approved etc, so hopefully discounted insurance etc. I have asked them to post me some details about the system, Thatcham recognition etc, and recovery statistics and will obviously keep you all posted. Here is a link to their website: |
I am most definitely in the market for a tracking system, but the recent demise of eguard and the very vague details on the website worry me...
Andy |
sounds like a good one keep us posted
|
Looks good to me. Are you sure there are no monthly charges? What guarantees are there with respect to continued future service?
Keep us posted on what you can find out and on group buy discounts? Alan |

The group buy might be going ahead in the next few weeks, any more takers?? Cheers Iain |
Something about this puzzles me:
"Once fitted to your car, Phantom sends detailed information about the vehicle’s location to the net of 24 GPS satellites constantly orbiting the earth - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This information is instantly transmitted to our control room, which can pinpoint the exact location of your vehicle." I thought GPS satellites were transmitting only - I didn't think they could receive information ? As I understand it, the other tracking products on the market "read" the location using the satellites and then use GSM etc to contact the relevant control centre. Strange..... Thanks Gavin |

I *think* they have just misworded some bits. I have been chatting with the MD about the group buy and he assures me they work in exactly the same way as other trackers. I have been told to wait until they have their new website up and running, so us sceptics (sp?) can be rest assured by monitoring their 'test vehicle'. Will keep you all posted. Cheers Iain |
Im interested to know more as things develop.

Sorry to jump in here but related... Andy W Knowing your situation, this week I was just happening to be talking to a company & one of their products is a very simple GPS tracking device. About the size of a packet of Players (or Major), installed in the car & forget about it. There's no intelligence involved (warning you etc) but YOU are able to contact it, ascertain it's location & send the feds in. Essentially, you put a pay&go sim in & if you need to locate it, dial the number, handshake & it will give you it's position constantly until you disconnect. Interface with Infomap (£35) would be possible, & watch it moving on a laptop. Downside is £500 cost. Let me know if of interest to you, but although initially high, over 2 or 3 years works out much cheaper. |
Iain,
I would be interested in this, could you keep me informed if things progress. Thanks, Michael |
Could well be interested... Keep me updated. Is £399 the discounted price or are we aiming lower?
Jon |
Polar,
Could be getting it lower than £399. Cheers Iain |

Hello everyone,
Judging by the response and feedback (or lack of) that i have had from Asset, it's not looking too good. They appeared to be very enthusiastic (sp?) to start off with, but when the questions came rolling in they began to loose interest. I'm sorry if i have built all your hopes up, but i don't want to take the risk of a group buy if potential customers are left in the lurch. Cheers Iain |
I have e-mailed Asset Assured a couple of times to get pricing info regarding Phantom GPS. I must say they are very slow to respond.
Worth noting I contacted my insurance company Privilege, and they said they were aware of the Phantom tracker but did not recognise it as it did not alert you when your car was being stolen like Tracker Monitor would. There argument was that your car could be out of the country before you new it had been stolen thus making the Phantom useless. |
I enquired with Tescos & gave the same answer. I then asked them, why do you accept Tracker Retrieve then??
Anser was 'We dont know, this is what we are told & thats all we accept' What a load of cobblers!!! |
