which ECUs/mods remove need for MAF?

Which ECUs dont use MAF sensors?

Apexi PowerFC?
Apexi S-AFC?
ScoobyECU?
Link?
motec?

any others?

Gems doesn't use Maf either.

Power FC uses MAF
S-AFC isn't an ECU
ScoobyECU isn't an ECU
Link uses MAP
Motec uses MAP or MAF

Why exactly do you need to get rid of the maf sensor? Because in my experience MAF sensors are actually very good with a few specific exceptions that you're unlikely to encounter unless you have a rather large turbo.

Pavlo,
I realise S-AFC isnt an ECU (I have one). Does it bypass the need for a MAF?

Delboy2 14 July 2004 06:29 PM

The APEXI S-AFC is a device which is hard wired between the MAF and ECU so it can modify the output signal from the MAF to increase/decrease fuelling (Air Flow Convertor) but can also be used/configured for cars that don't use MAF sensors like pressure devices and 'flap' based flow meters - so it doesn't bypass the need for the MAF sensor ;)

Cheers

Apexi Power FC can run on MAP instead of MAF, mine does :)

Andy

When's that commercially available Andy ?

Benefits? Downsides??

Cost?

Andy.F 14 July 2004 09:49 PM

Available Aug/Sept.

Benefits -
No maf worries. (if your year of maf is a worry ?)
No flutter effect on overrun on a FMIC/big turbo set up.
No power limit dictated by maf saturation.
Reduced intake restriction.
Free choice of air filter.

Downsides -
More expensive to install.
Mapping more involved.
More sensitive to exhaust/turbo/intercooler changes.
Still to be proven for a decent time/mileage
Restricted choice of mapper ;)

Cost approx £200

Is this an option after original fitment?

MY94 MAF is tough and ok ... so far! No FIMC, etc !

But sounds interesting for the future!

Andy F: I'm thinking of getting a Power FC, is it something you'd recommend?

why is mapping for a MAP sensor more involved?

cheers

:D

Volumetric efficiency and acceleration enrichment mapping are more involved for a speed density system.

Andy.F 15 July 2004 11:18 AM

I'd only recommend the map conversion if you are pushing for big bhp and you consider the maf a restriction, or perhaps if you have had a maf related failure and it just has to go to regain your confidence.
