This info isn't for me but a friend has built this week by week now when he has come to run it the gearbox slips really bad when he try's to apply full throttle, I was wondering if anybody else has built this and experinced the same sort of problems or any others ???

the **** has built it wrong.

tell him to take it apart and read the mags properly. lol.

as an aside, if the model you are on about is a kyosho alpha 3, it doesnt have a gearbox.
i need more info.

do you mean the clutch slips?? or does it engage clunkily, (which could mean the rear diff assembly has been bodged..)

what are the exact symptoms..???

Lol to me it a lump of sh1t and he would have been better off buying a kit from a model shop, if he sets off slowly then it's ok but as soon as he pushes the throttle it slips like one of the cogs in the gear housing is missing all it's teeth. the link is to the site that supplies it

i remember seeing that advertised and working out the cost of the mags comes to about £400! if I remember right, right con merchants deagostini seem to be.

i think BB pretty much answered the question in his first post. he needs to take the thing to bits, chuck away all the parts that don't look particularly important, stick a few lumps of blue tack inside and then reassemble.

As already mentioned don't think anyone is that stupid. Visiting your local model shop is a much cheaper and more sensible idea.

Who actually buys those Deagostini things? You only have to do a little bit of maths to work out that it's a con :p

Like I said in my first post it isn't me that has bought it, I own a HPI MT2 nitro car !!!

I had a similar problem on my petrol rc scooby.
took the gear assembly apart and took a lot more care "mating" the cogs together.
flew like a barsteward after that.


then sold it cos I played with it twice in a year and a half.

They will probably bring another magazine out called "overhaul your model Subaru gearbox" in 52 weekly stages.Then after that it will be the no.3 piston warranty claim :)

My young cousin bought a couple of these mags,until i pointed out that he would be better of buying a nitro one out the local model shop.

Truckerted I don't suppose he managed to complete the gearbox did he I believe that was upto issue 19

Nah sorry mate,he lasted about 3 issues!Typical youngster no perseverance!

What type of differential does it use? Gear or ball bearing?

If it's a ball bearing type diff (load of little balls and 2 plates), then if it's not tightened enough it will slip big time. Too tight and it locks the diff (makes quite a handy LSD :) ). So check the torque of the bolt that holds it together.

Also some electric RC cars have a slipper clutch (doubt that cheapy thing will though) which is adjustable...if it has one (it will be on the big gear thats driven by the gear on the motor) - just tighten the centre bolt up!!

Ali-B nah its sh1t mate, the diff inside the gear housing has one large cog which inside has an arrayment of smaller metal cogs on futher investigation ( when I looked at it) one of the cogs has taken some damage to the point that most of the teeth on it have bent causing it to slip like it is doing. So I guess he is going to either have to get a back copy of the mag or email the magazine publisher Deagostini direct and complain to them

"aluminium cogs" - how long are they gonna last.
the proper cars have hardened helical numbers.

tell your mate to put it on shelf and look at it.

or write to the mag and get a back issue.

sorry, we cant even get the spares, they are unlike any other!!!

Yeah thats the ones BB thought it would be a ongoing problem !!!, the company that supplies Deagostini is based in Spain, I Have told him he will have to eit her contact the mag or get a back issue which he will have to wait upto 21 days for lol
