Where is the best place to buy the disc lock from? How much does it sell for and is there anything better?

Andy W 07 March 2001 10:12 PM

first things first
Halfords
£80
No (came out 2nd to autolock 2000 in A'express test due to faulty unit) I have had both and would choose the disklock every time Much more of a visable deterrent, bigger but you soon get used to it.

I use a disc lock, but beware.

They have velcro at the opening end, I imagine to keep it shut when not in use. The velcro got stuck fast when I tried to open the disc lock to put on the steering wheel.
A bit of extra effort saw the half in my right hand connect squarely with my chin, rendering me almost unconsious. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif Anyone could have dragged me out of the car and drove away in it....

But, it makes me feel much better about leaving my scoob. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

I also use the disklok but i am thinking about selling it and buying a new one as i
have lost all my spare keys and am getting
offered reasonable cash for mine.
Do they still make them in silver ?

Autolock 2000(T) usually sells at >£60. Homebase are doing them at £37.99.

I think the big yellow disk on your wheel is a great deterrant. And as others have said it's dead easy to put on/take off. Mine goes under the passenger seat (rear) when I'm driving. The only time it's a hassle is when I have passengers in the back.

Rang the makers themselves and got a *reconditioned* one for £45 all in... hee hee

I got a bright yellow one from Halfords, great deterrent but REALLY LOUD first thing in the morning..........

My brother (clever b***ard) got one online

A test on Pulling Power (I think) showed the disclock can withstand 20 minutes of attack by a thief.

Steve Williams,

Do you mean its loud when you release the spring?
I always hold the lever and move it back by hand. I had read about someone unlocking theirs and it broke into pieces (the spring-lock-device thingy http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif)

Steve Williams 09 March 2001 08:31 PM

No I mean it is visually loud, as in "I've had a heavy night, who turned on the lights" loud http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

I would have thought that the construction was strong enough to let the spring release without holding it.

Clarey 09 March 2001 08:34 PM

It probably is strong enough, but i'm sure i read on here about one which came apart and could have been nasty! I'll try a search

Phil.
