Help required fitting AFR
Need to install AFR before rolling road on Sunday, currently have MBC fitted but don't wont to increase boost any further until AFR is installed.
Car is 1997 uk turbo, has the later 3 plug ecu. 1) how do I connect to ecu? 2) does it matter what I use for power source as long as its switched? 3) does it matter what I use for earth? Also read on another thread that scotch locks are not advisable for the ecu connection, is this true? Cheers Andy. |
don;t use scotch locks as you said..
Earth is best to battery negative.. power - a switched source should be fine. As to ecu connection try a search on MY97 ecu pinout.. Simon |
|
Hi Simon, How are you?
What connection would you use if not scotchlock? Solder the wires together? Neil |
Yep Solder the wires :)

hehe no I havent, been way to busy
Still working now :( |
I am doing good... I think :D
Yes agree solder.. I usually remove a bit of insulation on the wire going into the ecu and then twist the wire connection around it tightly with pliers.. then cover with tape. that was suppose to be temporary and will solder them when happy they are the right wires.. but I am not particularly handy with a soldering iron so I am not rushing :) Only thing I would suggest is you unplug the ecu before soldering so as not to heat the ecu.. |
Car is in bits!!
I have a print out of the 3 plug ECU, do I need to connect to B136 terminal 6 for the signal to the afr i.e mass air flow sensor.
Could I also use any of the grounds on the ecu as earth? Thanks Andy |
There are power, earth and signal wires on the ecu.
It has been said that you can get a good clean signal by soldering to these. Did you check the threads I sent you, re wires to use, one listed the 3 wires to do just this! Else just use a good earth to the body, a switched power and the ECU signal. |
Neil, yes I checked those threads but they refer to the earlier ecu. They mention row 3 on the plug mine only has 2 rows per plug.
Andy |
Hmmm mine too, maybe yours is before the 800 series ECU's and after mine? I have 4 plugs on MY94.
Suggest you PM or e-mail Bob Rawle, Pavlo, AndyF, Pat, John Banks etc if you are desperate. I can't promise a response, but they are the guys in the ECU know. |

The print out I have has 3 plugs B137, B135 & B136. Its a little fussy but I think the mass air flow sensor signal is B136 terminal 6
Andy. |
It is B136 pin 5 , look on this thread i found after doing a search
http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthrea...ght=afr+wiring Mark |
here is a link to a drawing
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/b.ruces...7ecupinout.jpg definately b136 pin 5 pin 6 is for the mass air sensor not oxygen Good luck tommorrow Mark |
Use B136 pin 11 for switched live and B136 pin 13 for ground.
Wouldn't use the battery for earth and feed personally. MB |
