Logix,

If you look down the back of the engine, just below the turbo outlet you will see a blanking plug above No 3 cylinder. It is plain with a hex recessed into it for an Allen key. If you remove this you can replace it with a plug like the one that the oil pressure sender screws into and the Defi sender will screw straight into that. It's a bit fiddly but can be done with a bit of patience - if I managed it anybody can http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif This is the best place for it because the sender is tucked away from harm and you also get a true reading of the oil as it leaves the cylinder area - if you put the sender in the sump you will find that it reads quite a bit cooler. You will need to remove the intercooler to do all this but that must take all of, say, 5 minutes to do if you're not hurrying http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif Good luck.

Does any one Know where the oil temp sensor goes for a defi gauge? on a MY99 and do I need any other fitments for this?
Any Pics of where it is.
Chiark has got a good site for info on fitting the gauges but I am not sure about the oil temp, its not that clear.

Contact Harj or one of the guys at Newage Motorsport (banner ad, running at the top). They resell the Defi gauges, so I guess they could tell you. I believe Stef has these fitted in his car too?

If you find out, could you let me know and I'll update the site.

My Autometer temp gauge fits in a specially machined sump bung, sold by Scoobymania.

Yours will be different!

Nick.

I like the idea of the blanking plug above No 3 cylinder. The million $ question is where do you get another adaptor like on the standard oil pressure gauge?
The i-club guys(lost the thread) cannot get hold of this part. Do you have a part number? You will probably also need a male 1/8BSPT (for engine block) and female 1/8NPT (for temp sender) unless you have a 1/8BSPT sender(which most are not).

For the oil temp you need this adapter from subaru 11024AA111. I think it's called a "plug main gallery".

As already mentioned, you'll also be best taking off the intercooler as the plug is in a really awkard place. The allen key is 8mm (but dont quote me) - get a socket type one if you can as you cant get much leverage with the normal type.

Thanks for the reply! This makes my life alot easier, I will check out that part with Subaru today.
Any idea what the exact thread is on this adaptor so I can attach the sender to it? Also once you fit this adaptor plug is it there for life or can it come out again?

RaymondH 11 December 2001 12:40 PM

The thread is 1/8NPT and my Defi sender screwed straight in. The plug has a hex on it so it can be removed whenever you want :D

Raymond.
