New York - advice for long weekend break

I'm thinking of taking the misses to New York for her Birthday in August. I'm just trying to figure out the best time to go - as in, it dosen't have to be August, can be Sep-Oct. What sort of prices are we looking at? Has anyone elso done a long weekend break to NY?

Any advice here welcomed.

Thanks

Nick

Have done NY a couple of times now. i found the best prices were by getting the flights and accommodation seperately, worked out a lot cheaper for me, also that way I managed to find a couple of hotels that included breakfast in the price. let me know if im can be of further assistance.

i went last year at xmas time, not advisable then though mate cos its probably the most expensive time to go, well worth the trip though cos you'll definitely enjoy it.

we go every year for xmas, always book a flight seperate then just book the hotel....much cheaper (well it would be if Mrs Tiggs wasn't a W.Astoria/plazza fan)

We have been a couple of times. Great place , especially the first time. We've not been for about 4 years so recommendations will be out of date as places open and close. Downtown near the financial data is quieter at night so easier to sleep and usually cheaper during the weekend. The tube is quick and safe.
