CDRom has bad block?
Hope someone can help!
My CDRom has stopped reading some CD's? I have just bought 2 new programs and the drive won't read either disk. When I try to explore the disks, there are no files to view. (The disks aren't faulty because I can read them on my laptop) It also seems not be be reading audio CD's but it does read some of my old files stored on CD? After searching through the 'Microsoft Help and Support Centre' I came across the following error message, stored on my computor.... ... CDRom, The device, \Device\CdRom0, has a bad block......... Does anyone know what the problem could be? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Paul |
Is strange how they read some older disc's and not the new one's, Sin this a load of times before and its always come down to replacing the CD drive. CD drives are dirt cheap anyhow selling for under a tenner in some shops.

Hi,
I its not related to your issue but: Had exactly the same problem as this when I bought a duff batch of DVD media. My collection gradually degraded over a week and became almost impossible to read. At the same time the event logs where filling with 'the drive has a bad block' message(s). Anyways, sounds like your drive is most probably Fubar'd. As per Scooby24's comments they don't cost so much these days so you might as well bin it and replace. Before you do that... have you tried using a cleaning disc as your lens might have some dirt on it? Frank |
A cleaning disk would probably cost more than a new CD-ROM !
£7-8 is the going rate for a rom nowadays, you're best to just swap it out. |
Thanks guys, I'll see if I can borrow a cleaning disk of someone first!

Forgot to say, the CDRom is also a combined CD Writer and DVD player. How much are these to replace?
Cheers Paul |
A decent combo drive is around the £30 mark.
Why not use this as an excuse to go the whole hog and get a DVD writer (also a DVD player, cd writer, cd rom) Cheap ones can be had under £40, Pioneers are under £50 now too! Paul |
