Fuel Pump Options and suppliers

Following on from my rough running escapade, I have narrowed it down to being the fuel pump that has packed in. Does anyone have any recommendations as to which pump to get, aftermarket uprated one or standard OEM part? Pros and Cons please

Have done a search and a lot of people seem to recommend the Walbro pump, but was wondering if there are any other parts that need changed to accomodate this pump? ie press regulator? Or will it work happily with the standard system.

Also are there a few suppliers of these pumps as the only name that seems to have been mentioned is AS performance?

Thanks

Dougie

warlboro 255ltr/hour pump.

you can et that and the matching regulator.

Best prices I have seen are from lateral performance. Think mark carries them in stock too.

Wow, quick reply Adam! :D

Is it necessary to replace the regulator as well, if you fit this pump? Or will it run with the standard one? Trying to keep the costs down ;)

type
www.22b.com in your address bar
goto site links, click on bbs
go down the forum list til you get to group buys
look at the walboro 255lt/hr pump and regulator group buy organised by Harvey.
pay Alyn of ASPerformance the princely sum of £195
(by debit card over the phone is a good method)
open door in the morning to the postie with a nice brown parcel addressed to you.
easy peasy.

the value of fuel pumps can go down as well as up, your car is at risk if you do not keep up payments etc.
there are other suppliers but Alyn had stock and a group buy price.

I'll 3rd it :D

But you will need to change the reg because the pressure of the pump will overrun the stock reg.

Can this pump be used as an external "out of tank" pump ?

I have a brand new Walbro fuel pump to fit a classic and an adjustable FPR which I purchased from the group buy, both brand new, which I will send to you next day delivery for £170. PM me if interested.

The Walbro/FSE341 is an in tank pump. It could be used in line but it is not intended for that and there will be other pumps better suited. The pick up on the Walbro is via a filter sack that would be dispensed with for in line operation.
An FPR will give you the facility to adjust pressure and hence a very crude adjustment of air fuel ratio. An FPR may not be necessary but the story goes that the standard regulator which is non adjustable can be overcome by the new pump. Never seen this happen and my motives for an FPR replacement would be to obtain the adjustability.

Hmmm, with my (limited and dismal!) experience of injection pumps on my Westfield, these things run pretty hot...presumably, the in-tank units use the surrounding fuel as a coolant for the casing?....I'm certainly no expert, but my concern would be (maybe unjustified) that mounting externally *may* accelerate premature failure, after all, they do spin bl00dy fast! :D

Maybe completely wrong, but may be worth checking out with the manufacturer before seizing one!

Cheers

Interesting, I'd not thought about heat transfer. I'd planned to mount a 2nd external pump on the front bulk head, where it's gonna get even hotter.

Anybody recommend an external 2nd pump good for upto 450bhp.

I also have the Walbro in tank pump which works well.

Mark,

Speak to mark, the walbaro's cant be used out of tank, I run two as lift pumps and bosch 044's as main pumps.. mark keeps the bosch in stock, and is a lot cheaper than the £430- 450 that demon tweeks charge..

Suitable for in excess of 600bhp and nitrous needs :D (im talking about 2 here... one should do what you want :D)

What's annoying is that I bid for a Bosch 044 on Ebay and was away when the auction closed and the pump went for peanuts.

I've got hold of an STi PPP fuel pump but it has no makers name on it (other than being in a prodrive box).
Anyone know what these flow and does the FPR get replaced as well on the PPP?

If the pump has a foam sleeve glued on, or an area on the pump that has been ground away, it's almost certainly a Walbro pump in disguise.

Unfortunately, the only way to be sure it's up to the job, is to test it.

Mark.
