What I have been wasting my time on.

Finally got it painted and I have still got cutting and polishing to do. Quite pleased for a first attempt though.

Got to fit new polycarb windows, replace the gearshift and fix an electrical problem...then it is going!
Plan is to take it to a track day for a shakedown.

drb5 26 June 2004 04:16 PM

Zeolite 26 June 2004 04:18 PM

That is what it said on the swatch :D It is also a Lada colour :)

May be some colour change from my camera though.

drb5 26 June 2004 04:21 PM

where do you get the polycarb windows from? do they come already cut?

Zeolite 26 June 2004 04:39 PM

Can buy them from Airedale Race Components for £160 the set but I was thinking of making my own. Will decide when I get back.

Buy the sheets yourself and router out the sliders yourself just as we did and saved ourself £160.00 !!!

I can lend you a router btw

drb5 26 June 2004 05:42 PM

can they come slightly curved though m8?

They were fixed into the rails and do not operate with the lekky windees or a winder so they just follow the shape of the curve in the door, after all they are only 4mm thick so not a problem.

Thats in the Corsa of course, your mota might be different.

Bets thing to do is to go to the Jim Clark or UKRC4 and see some on the scoobs for yourself.

drb5 26 June 2004 05:48 PM

ta;)

Thanks for the kind comment though.

Opelcorsa..I put sliders in my last set but it was a fiddle. The problem is the price of the polycarb. Do you know if i can use the 4mm Styrene you get in homebase etc?

Dougster 26 June 2004 10:45 PM

He means Starsks? As in Starsky and Hutch???

Ian any spare seats and a link/phone no for the lads that do the windows?

Zeolite 26 June 2004 11:32 PM

Dougster..pm'd you.

Ah Starsky! I have the curls of PM-G but I have the colouring and looks of D.S (Hutch).

no. it has to a minimum of 4mm shatterproof polycarbonate or similar shatterproof material not tinted.

When are you proposing to come out Ian?

What are you suggesting big boy? :)

Got a few things to do and I will be autocrossing when the season starts in August in the Pug. So hopefully I will be out for Crail. Will try and do a SIDC trackday for a shakedown. Have to check out the new suspension and see if it will go in a straight line now and the new PAS has to be checked as well.

foz01 27 June 2004 08:58 PM

Shame its not RWD as cue lots of smoky burnouts and tailslides aka the torino :p

I will take a couple of pics of mine on Monday nite and post em here to let you see how easy they are to make yourself.

I may take one or two of the engine bay to get dave all exited

Dougster 27 June 2004 09:21 PM

Would a marine spec plastic fuel tank be a good idea?

Ian, how much again for the pair of harnesses?

Zeolite 27 June 2004 09:33 PM

Foz..I made an inswinging hatch on the fiesta with a couplpe of small hinges but sliders are easy enough. Cutting the hole was the problem I had last time.

Dougster you have a pm. Don't know about a marine spec fuel tank. The main thing is to have a sealed bulkhead between you and the tank. Also the pick up has to be carefully placed to avoid fuel surge as you will pull more lateral g's in the car.

Dougster 27 June 2004 09:59 PM

What about a custom alloy tank with FSE swirl pot?

Hangers on original tank are gubbed. Could possibly do some welding and use orig.

Cheers, will get back to you on harness and tyres.
