Arthroscapies aka knee surgery
 

Just wondering if anyone out there has had it, I'm assuming so since it's quite common.

Basically I had mine just over a month ago where they repaired a tear in my medial cartilage. Since then my knee feels really mangled compared to my other one ie. there a lump of bone to the right of the patela that shouldn't be there :(

Is this going to be like this forever? The surgery didn't take very long and I thought it must have been quite minor but they must have used some force to shift this bone as much as it has.

Anyone know if this will heal itself as in it's being pushed out by bruised tissue that will receed in time? The doctor / nurse didn't say anything further and I'm not scheduled to go back.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Ive got a lump of bone floating around my kneecap that I chipped off when I opened my van door onto it one morning, does that count ?

Been meaning to see a quack for about a year now but I don't know if it's worth it ?

Had knee surgery twice.

First time to trim ACL tear & clean joint.

Second time to insert new ACL.

Both times up walking same day. Knee was painful but not exactly unexpected. Initial full movement was difficult but with physio & time I have made a good recovery. No lumps or bones sticking out

I have had two arthroscopies in the last 18 months, one for each knee. Both times I have had part of the fat pad removed and also the plica bands that pull knee caps together.

Success rate so far is 50%.

The first knee, the right one, (done 18 months ago) is still painful and I have just finished my latest course of physiotherapy. The swelling for this knee was huge and at one stage I was rushed to hospital as they thought my knee was infected (not the case).

My left knee was done 6 months after the first and the difference was incredible - swelling was 50% less and I was able to regain movement and walk normally within a week.

I have no problems with the left knee but resigned myself to the fact that the right knee will never be right and I'm not prepared to give the surgeon a second go to get it right (unless it gets a LOT worse!). I still continue to do physio exercises for the right knee and am now drumming again which appears to be helping the healing process.

My last count is two full open knee reconstructions and 10, yes 10, arthroscopies all on my left (glass) knee due to an arthritic condition brought on by too much rugby, running, skiing, falling down etc.

Arthroscopies should be virtually painless with you walking (slowly) out of the hospital the same day and walking pretty much normally by two or three days later. I flew to South Africa for work carrying heavy suit bags and was climbing up and down oil rig stairs etc two days after one of mine.

I would give your specialist a ring and explain your symptoms to them as maybe they have missed a bit or ballsed up cleaning up the tear.
