Hi chaps/chapesses

I'm considering getting the centre guage pod for my scoob.

I know GGR (expensive), MRT and STi all do them. Anyone got any comments on quality ? fit ? do they all require the original packet to be cut ?

What about fitting the forester one ? (56 quid)

Now then... what guages ? original STi (Lamco), or HKS ?

Basically.. I'm trying to decide whether to buy the complete STI unit (pod, gauges, units) or whether to buy the pod and HKS gauges seperately....cost comparison time.

Cheers,

J.

Firefox,

I have the Forester binnacle fitted to MY98 with GGR boost and oil pressure gauges. The gauges are a little too big for the binnacle which also needs to have a front panel made for it. If you know anybody in the sign industry the rear of coloured darvic used in sign making is a great match for the dash etc. or alternatively use a piece of carbon fibre film to cover it . I fitted mine after relieving the binnacle to take the gauges, making a panel (any material will do for this) and then sticking back to front darvic carefully shaped on top of that to give a flush fitting appearance. The whole job depends on whether or not you can get your mitts on an adjustable hole cutter. I can't comment on the gauges other than that they look good and seem to be accurate - the only (slight) drawback is that they don't light up green but that should be easily fixed. Hope this helps. Cheers.

I was thinking about sticking some in the area underneath the stereo.
Don't trust or greddy do some decent ones?
I've got the STi "factory fit" Lamco boost guage.
It's not the same quality as the other Jap tuners IMO.

Hi Craig...

Glad someone replied.. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

I already have HKS... So chances are I'll go down that route... Oil Pressure, Oil Temp, I would like an EGT - but I dont think you can get someones (oooeeer)

What about the Pod ? which fits the best ?

Pete (C&K) - How much is the STi Center Pod with out gauges ?

Cheers,

J.

Hi there..

Fabricating the front panel isnt a problem http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Did you have to cut the pocket from the front vents to fit the pod ?

HKS gauages work out about 77 quid + vat...

I wanted an EGT..but at over 200 quid..I'll pass....

Cheers,

J.

Not sure what you mean by pocket but the tray is cut off just below the edge of it's lid and removed complete with lid to leave a gaping hole (gulp). If you've done it correctly the pod will fit perfectly and be a perfect match - do it wrongly and you'll have an extra air vent http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif Good luck whatever you do.

Jay.
Have you seen MRT's pod?
Don't know how much it is but it looks the biz! I'm thinking of one too.

Hi Steph..

Thanks for the advice... MRT is one of the many daily websites I check... I speak to Brett on a regular basis...

Hi Brett.... LOL

I am after the OE version (not carbon)... Its 51 quid + vat here in the UK... But it doesnt come with the plastic surround for the gauges.... and has a slight lip on the inside...Thats not a problem.. I can machine one up easily enough....

I have been trying to contact Pete (Subaru Manchester) for the last few days regarding the STi item (that has the facia). I believe its the same hood, just has the fascia too. But I need to check for sure...But they havent got back to me on price yet.. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

No doubt it will be far more than 51 quid...

J.

ps - Raymond, chances are your gauges are 52mm... the HKS ones are 46mm

Keep me informed of your progress. Do you reckon you'll have it done before Donington?

Hey J.

I have a white faced 60mm Greddy EGT and found it indeed invaluable. Twice my car ran an EGT of 1000 Cels.! as a result of overboosting from a faulty EBC.

I got my EGT for about 120 quid. If you'd like I could procure it for ya and mail it to you.

Hi y'all...

I'm still half asleep...so bare with me... and gotta catch a coach for 6 hours... damn girlfriend!! *but I love her*

I have got my guages.. and the pod... the UK pod must be smaller than the STi one.. the gauges JUST fit in...no space around the top.... But it looks cool... I couldnt be arsed waiting and trying to source a jap one...chances are more expensive than a UK pod anyway...

stePH... I will have all the work done... and run in well before then.... I'm not going to be doing a BPM, working on it the night before!!

If I havent run the car in enough... Then I wont take it on the track... development and testing is more important than fitting.. Anyone can fit kit (just that I fit it better)... but people/companies dont test it too well....

Firefox

Which pod and gauges did you get in the end?

Regards

firefox 04 October 1999 09:57 PM

Hi Sunilp..(I keep thinking its Sunlip)

I went for the Impreza/Forrester Pod.... 51 quid from a main dealer..

I went for the 46mm HKS gauges (feckin expensive) to match my existing one

I have just returned from up north...and I have some other parts arriving this week... So I will start work on the car soon...

Just been to several places to source a boost gauge. Torque developments sell HKS gauges at £90 + vat. The greddy pod which fitted to the `A` pillar was utter crap.

Thinkautomotive do a boost gauge for £24 and thats a white faced malcon unit+ very helpful.
