Can I make my steering heavier??
...without buying a manual or quicker rack?
I've recently seen a kit for 80's Jaguars that basically is an adjustable valve that can reduce the PAS pressure and reduce the assistance. I was just wondering if it was possible to get such a device for my UK MY97 or is it possible to tinker with the valves in the pump and rack? |
Adding things like an ALK, Steering rack bushes and the like firms up the steering a bit without any major surgery.
Feel improves quite a bit too, IMHO. HTH |
My wheel went heavier when i replaceed the standard steering wheel with a 320MM Momo...and daam its heavy and Small... :)

My steering got a bit heavier when I fitted bigger brakes thanks to the giroscopic effect of the bigger disc, makes the car stop quicker too!!

Right, ok, so fitting really heavy wheels will solve my problem? ;)
I'm tempted to swap to a smaller steering wheel, but that would require removing the airbag, which I'm sure my insurace will take quite a dislike too (although they may not like tinkering with the PAS - it's easier to hide ;) ) ALK, possible, but I don't think it'll give the drastic improvment I'm after. I have a daft Idea: remove and replace PAS pump with an idler pulley. But that may be a bit too extreme LOL :D |
If you could fit a larger diameter pulley onto the pas pump that could help.
AFAIK,the sti racks are heavier to feel and less turns lock to lock. |
How about letting 20 psi out of each tyre?
;) Sorry! |
