Has Anyone On Here Got Their CPC for Road Haulage ?

I was just wondering if anyone on here has taken their Certificate of Proffesional Competence for road haulage ?

If so can you tell me a bit about it as I will have to take it sooner rather than later.

And if anyone could recommend an intensive course I could take to get my CPC in (North) Yorkshire I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Matt

I have taken mine and its really hard!! you have to know everything in a book that can only be described as daunting  I done a 3 month home study but there are 1 week intensive courses available, 2 exams at the end and you must get 92% to pass.

try the freight transport association or the RHA (road haulage association) for details of courses in your area

andy,

Would you recommend the home study course, or the one week intensive ?

andypugh2000 09 June 2004 09:53 PM

try here Hard one to answer that, The 3 month home study was a nightmare as i kept biting the wifes head off for keep annoying me when i was nostril deep in study, i done 2 hours every night and kept to it like a military operation, have spoken to someone who done the 1 week intensive and they said it was very hard work but over in a week.

so its your decision really buddy, if i had to do it again i would do the weeks intensive as i think it would be easier to remember nearer the exams and stay focused on your work, would be a good idea to do it away from home and stay in a hotel away from distractions.

andy ;)

I did mine a few years back now, did my at the local college, 1 night a week for a month or so. TBH if you are a driver and reasonably clued up on trucks and or have and HGC licence there isn't much to it. There looks like there is a lot there but (unless it has changed) the multi choice questions kinda make a joke of it. I assume you are referring to UK and not International CPC?? Mate has just done International and apparently that was nasty, much worse than the UK one, no multi choice (again the UK one may have changed since I did it)

Thanks for the advice :)

Yes it is the UK CPC I'm after, and I have got my HGV license so am fairly clued up on trucks.

Think I will go for the one week intensive course - get it oassed and out of the way (I hope :D)

I'll let you know how it goes :)

I done the every sunday course for i think it was 9 wks (i think), i have my Cat C license, i was a HGV Tech (before moving up the ladder) & i found it quite hard, i think it was because i done the longer course & didnt get a chance any of the other 6 days to study due to work commitments. I did pass first time which really suprised me as the exam i took the instructor had told us there would be a part in the exam thats been in the last 14 exams & i was ready for it but it wasnt.
Really hard course i would advise you to do the week or 2 week intensive
Thanks

Stephen

ps wait till you do the international ooooooooooooooohhhhhhhh thats harder
