How do you save e mails before reformatting PC?

Hi Peeps,

I want to reformat my PC and don't want to loose my e mails. How do I go about it? I've tried copying them to CD but can't get them up when outloook express opens. Instead, the e mails on my PC come up, not the ones on CD. Can anyone help please?

Cheers,

George.

You can unhide all files and folders, then go to documents and settings/yourname/microsoft/outlook/

Or export all files to PST file then import on new machine.

The export to .pst has always been my fav route.
I reformat bout once every 6 weeks, dump all backups on to a spare hdd or a partition and then import after reinstall.

.pst keeps it nice and tidy too, no danger of partial data loss.

Remember also the File & Settings Transfer wizard is pretty good for favorites, my docs etc.

PST is definatly one route , t'other one is create a new folder on the HD , drag and drop the emails from aformentioned email client onto folder. Copy folder to CD .

Format machine etc etc .

Load email client
Open folder of CD .
Drag from folder of CD to email client

Don't forget that Outlook opens a PST for both read AND write access - so it will fail if it is stored on a CD.

You can still use a CD for transfer, and copy back to a hard drive afterwards though!
