I know this subject has been thrashed to death but I took the driving light covers off for the first time for about 6 months yesterday and both bulbs (120W PIAAs fitted by dealer) had blown.

I was just wondering what was the best choice of bulb to replace them with, I am not a bulb snob and am currently considering 130W jobbies from Halfords.

One of my bulbs blew and I did a direct comparison with the replacement bulbs from Halfords. You couldnt tell the difference between the two lights. I have now replaced both with the Halfords efforts and no difference or problems.

Andrew,

I ahve run the Halfords bulbs for months now in the RB5. I think they do appear _slightly_ brighter and I have no problems with the increase in current draw 2x130W against 2x120W = 2A (ish).

Bulb life is about the same and at 1/4 price I wouldn't care if it wasn't! (Alhtough there is a hassle factor of replacing them).

Out of interest, what is the average
bulb life in the PIAA lamps?

Dont know what the average is, but mine lasted 18months. Well to be correct, only one blew at 18 months but I replaced both of them. With some people they dont seem to last long at all. However mine are always on, i.e. I flash with them and use them at night all the time. I have also have clear covers fitted to them and still got the lifetime stated above.

Another recommendation for the Halfords bulbs.I have found them to be brighter, have a whiter light and a better spread. They also last longer, cost 1/4 the price and you don't have to wait 6 weeks for your dealer to get them only to discover they have ordered the wrong ones http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif Bargain

My first set of bulbs lasted 18 months. (120W)

Replaced them with Halfords 130W bulbs. They are bitter and for 1/4 of the cost. Had them in for 6 months now.

Beastie where did U get your clear covers for your PIAA's from. I need to get a set, but I'm having trouble locating some. Help needed M8.

Cheers

Chris.

After starting this thread I discover that my bulbs hadn't blown after all, a wire hid 'become disconnected'...funny that I haven't touched it but the car's just been in for it's 30K service ???

Anyway, I would be interested in find out where to get clear covers too!

Lads
I am just using the Subaru accesssory clear fog light covers. I already posted a pic of them fitted a while ago. I put them on upside down so they dont affect the beam distance as they have a three prong mounting arrangement. About 24 quid from your Subaru dealer. Already stopped the lights from getting wiped out once when a Granny attacked me from the other side of the motorway. Covers disintegrated but not a mark on the lights. I will post another pic if you want.
