What's National Service?
Sorry - I'm a bit thick...
|
When you have to go in the forces for a while - normally at 18 or so.
|
It is a term applied to the requirement for people in a country to serve in the armed forces of that country for a fixed period of time - generally before they are of a certain age.
Phased out in the UK in the 50's, but still in use in some Euro countries. |
It's being taken from one place to another on a coach! :D
|
Yep, a few Euro countries do it. It's a fixed period of time usually between 12 and 24months (24 months is the most common).
My Dad did his at 17 and my cousin went to college to avoid it. He has to do it once he's finished Uni though - that'll teach him :D This is the Czech army. Stefan |

National Service does not mean you have to join the Army it means you have to dos some sort of service to the nation be it in a school, hospital etc the army is just 1 small part of national service, When will people learn this ???
|
In simple terms, conscription.
It finished in the 50's for us brits, any able bodied male needed to do 2 years service in one of the services, it was at a time where the cold war was upon us and the world wasnt quite what it is now (its probably worse now actually) but its an easy way of getting mass troops quickly. Tony:D |
