Network Bridging thingys
Ok, Here's what i'm trying to do.
My Home PC is internet connection sharing with an XP gateway on network aaa.bbb.0.ccc. The PC also has a wireless card of IP addy xxx.xxx.1.199 The Gateway IP addy is eee.fff.0.1 I've got a wireless bridge IP addy xxx.yyy.1.201 with a gate way of xxx.xxx.1.199 My laptop also has a wireless connection of xxx.yyy.100 Everything on the 1.xxx network can ping each other, as can everything on the 0.xxx network. So how do I make the 1.xxx talk to the 0.xxx network, and therefore make it so my laptop can use the internet? Thanks |
Why not use the right ip addresses - and give the masks used. I presume you're using private addresses behind a nat firewall - hardly going to present a security risk  and would make it a bit more understandable.

i thought you could have manually change the address and then assign each as xxx.xxx.1 then xxx.xxx.2 and so fourth but then again im not a network guy more of a hardware guy

really no need to be paranoid about private IP addresses ;) To make the wireless subnet see the internet via your main PC you have 2 options A) Make it route through to the DSL router. To do that you would need to (1) add a route for "wireless subnet" via "Home PC - Inet Interface" to the DSL router and (2) enable "IP forwarding" on the PC - for which you'll need either Win2K or XP - theres a registry setting somewhere (prob need a quick google). or B) Use Internetconnection sharing on the PC so the Wireless lan will get NATed by the PC - before forwarding to the internet router (whcih will then NAT again). or C) moving everything onto 1 subnet (wireless stuff, PC, internt router etc). Personally - I'd try to get (A) working or go for (C) |
Enabling IP forwarding on XP
You probably want to fix the IP address of the PC on the Internet side otherwise youd have to adjust the route on the router for the wireless subnet occasionally. |
