Unichip Vs Apexi (Vs Link)
 

Any body got a description of all three, giving advantages and disadvantages of each.
Need some help to confirm what i'm going to do.

For comparison purposes (as its not mentioned in the above link), Fuel and Ignition Map Resolution (RPM x Load) on
the Apexi PFC is 20x20 = 400 which is superior to Link, JECS and Unichip.
Apexi also has individual cylinder fuel trim which allows the shortcomings of the unbalanced OE fuel system to be addressed, potentially improving both power and economy :)

Can the Power FC do anything with ignition?

Yes, the Power FC is a full standalone ECU. The ignition and fuel are both on 20x20, 400 point 3D fully adjustable maps.
The Apexi does not retard timing if knock is detected, it will flash the check engine light at you to warn of this, much the same as a knocklink would.
If the car is mapped correctly then this would only happen if you got a bad tank of fuel. Arguably it is better to know about this and lift off/fix fuel rather than have the ECU continually retard the timing which can start to overheat things, meanwhile you keep thrashing it unaware of any problems......

Have had a look at this now! How do know which point on the maps you are operating at? One review I`ve seen states that the actual speed / load point is not indicated on the commande module???????

Do you know if you can set it up to run MAP rather than MAF?

It is currently only available for the classic range from 93 - 01, not sure if there will be a model produced for the later cars or not. Having said that, the bug/blob standard ECU's are a nice piece of kit and the Ecutek software can work wonders with them.

I use the laptop software for mapping, this has a 'ghost' profile running across the map to show live location. On the commander it is also possible to show the path a run takes through the map using the map tracer function.
The Subaru version can currently only run on MAF. A MAP conversion is currently being worked on although testing has still to be carried out and a final version is some months away.
If using a MAF is a concern then you can retrofit a MAF from a 93-96 model or a Skyline or a 300ZX, it can then be recalibrated within the ECU.
