Car repair - Training?

I would like to do some training in basic car maintenance.

Does anyone know of any colleges in London (croydon/sutton etc) that offer courses like this?

I am having difficulty finding any!

Thanks
Damian

I reckon you would be better off finding a friendly mechcanic and doing some work with him rather than paying to do a car maintenance course. Most mechcanics do private work on a saturday or sunday andn would probably be grateful of an extra pair of hands.

Might even bung you a few quid if you are anygood(I always used to with my apprentices)

Or maybe even try a local garage and try and see if they will let you help out/watch on a saturday.Got to better than sitting in a classroom with a load of middle aged women ;)

I've often considered this before Damian but I've never got around to it, and my last car had to be maintained by Renault for everything so it seemed pointless to learn :(

For my next car however I want to buy a Pug 205 GTI or a 106 GTI and a Hayes manual and then start pulling bits apart and putting them back together again :D

Learning hands on, as Steve said, is the best approach. Have you got any mates that are handy with a spanner and a wrench? If so ask if you can assit with something they are doing on their car and when they are not looking, pull some bits off their car and put them back on again :)

Don't get me wrong - I'm handy with the spanners.

Changed the clutch on my Beemer, and did the brake master cylinder on my Bluebird. Replaced the dizzy and exhaust on my Nova. Currently rebuilding my 126 engine :D :D

Just need a bit o' paper to my name, or some more experience with carb setups and other bits and bobs - suspension for example. I'd also like to learn to weld.

I'll go hunting round the local garages :D :D
