Something which I really dread is having to leave my car at the mercy of someone who is working on her, although now I've sold my scoob for a TT this feeling came back to me this week when I took my car to a so called car audio specialist to have a new head unit fitted, a preety straight forward job for a pro wouldn't you think ?
Anyway I go to pick it up and as I suspected theres a couple of bl***y scratches on the dash you know those really niggly ones,but this isn't the worst they have haven't even connected up the rear speakers http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif . Now they will have to take it out again (more scratches i'm thinking) so I take it back and watch over them but they have rammed the headunit in so hard they can't get it out http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/mad.gif ,no jokes about no one being able to nick it please,so now I'm stuck with a quality hifi (Bose ) that only plays the front speakers.
The shop did offer to get the headunit out but said they would need to dismantle the dash! Would you let these morons disman... No rip your dash out ?
Sorry for long rant but I've had it with people who have no respect for others peoples property.

I know what u mean. The amount of times I have had to sort out the ICE install on friends cars leaves me wondering how these people can live with themselves. Insulation tape, crossed wires, headunits not fixed in, bellwire for speaker cable and my favorite, connecting an amplifier power to the immobilisers power cable which has a 5 amp fuse!!! This particular foolishness led to my mates porsche not starting in a petrol station because the immobiliser wasnt being disarmed due to the fuse being blown. these people are paid to get the job done in a certain time (ie about an hour and a half). I cannot complete even a basic install inside of a day. Removing dash, trim, seats in one occasion etc. there are so few installers out there that take this sort of time and care and they are expensive because of it. I have just read what I have said and my, dont I go on hehe.

The biggest problem with the motor trade is they charge you loads and pay the technician not a lot and put him on a bonus scheme, so the more work he does the more they pay him. So unfortunatly they have a tendancy to rush and not take the care they would do on their own car.

Aha! Another ICE chat. OK, Stupot, where's the best place to put the multi changer in a Scoob? I've had mine attached to the boot floor, and thing skips more than a playground full of school kids. Expansion joints, cats' eyes… Someone suggested the rear parcel shelf, but I'm a bit wary about trying to remove the high quality and ultra durable hardboard lining without snapping it. Any thoughts?

Definately under the rear parcel shelf.
I managed to put mine there OK following some very handy tips on the IWOC web page.

No skipping, and doesnt take up any floor space.

If I can do it, anyone can!

My mate had one fitted at the dealer and they suspended it in the boot beneath the rear parcels shelf. Works a treat for him.

Aha! My skipping changer would appear to be cured. Apparently, the lack of prehensile thumbs on the ICE chimp who fitted it meant that he didn't sort out the horizontal hold.
They couldn't understand what was wrong with it to begin with, since they fit ICE to shedloads of rude, modded up shopping trolleys with Bilsteins so hard, your arse bleeds.
But, a quick inspection revealed the truth, and the stereo now sounds great. So no jumping on my Andy Williams and Val Doonican…
