honda s2000 or new slk.

want to trade my ctr in and cant decide on which car out of these two .honda s2000. or merc slk 200.i like honda reliability and digital dash plus fast hood mechanism.but slk folding hard top and galvanised body for 30 years.wife has got to drive it plus winter time considerations.resale is approx 60% after 3 years on both models and price wise about the same what would you choose and why.

S2000 will be much much faster, more fun, rewarding, a laugh, the noise etc.
SLK is smooth, comfy, upmarket but not much fun and will cost a fair bit more to service - IF we're talking the outgoing car. IF it's the new new one, apparently that's much improved. Given how new it is, there's not much to go on so best read through the mags as I doubt many here will have driven one.

Regardless, go test drive them both. Only you (and the wife - what sort of a driver is she?) will know which is right.

Ignoring which is better to drive (although the SLK has had reasonable write ups)

If its your own money new SLK. s2000 resale values are going downhill fast now whereas the SLK is brand spanking and benefits from 3 pointed star.

s2000 resale values are going downhill fast
?????????? How'd you come to this opinion? Still very hard to find even a decent 5 year old one for less than £15,000, that's still firmly over 50% retained value over 5 years. They are one of the lowest depreciating cars on sale.

Hasn't MB just shown the new model SLK? Not sure when it's on sale, but residuals of the current shape cars will plummet afterwards IMHO

Heart would say S2000, but head would say SLK, but only if it was the new version.

As mentioned above, it definitely depends on whether you're spending your own cash.

I would imagine the waiting lists on the new slk will already be getting fairly long. Getting a spanking new model with a healthy waiting list should guarantee almost free motoring for a year or so.

I was advised a 8 - 9 month wait on a new SLK in London regardless of engine or spec. I can post the price list and spec details on here if anyone is interested.

S2000 = Ayrton Senna or new SLK = Johnny Herbert
