SAD DAY
VERY SAD DAY THIS COMING SAT WHEN MUCH
LOVED SCOOB HAS TO GO :( FED UP WITH £50 POUND A WEEK PETROL, £1000 YEAR INSURANCE,STUPID SERVICE COST,AND WIFE TELLING ME TO SLOW DOWN EVERY 5 MINS  GOOD NEWS FOCUS ST170 ON IT'S WAY :D HALF'D MY INSURANCE IN ONE EASY GO  AND 22 MILES TO THE GALLON. AND WIFE SEEMS TO THINK IT'S A LOT SLOWER HAVE'NT THE HEART TO TELL HER WHAT THE 170 MEANS :D SO LONG SCOOB TILL THE NEXT TIME.......... |
I agree with you about insurance, but servicing doesn't seem THAT expensive, certainly compared to BMW etc.
22 MPG isn't anything to shout about compared to the Scoob if you drive it normally. Unless of course you thrash it everywhere. In which case you're going to miss it :) |
Think you will miss the scoob mate.
|
Nothing to shout about though ;)
PS You'll miss the scob but you'll be surprised how much you'll get to enjoy the different driving style required to get the focus from A to B... |
You'll be back, sooner than you think...
|
AND WIFE SEEMS TO THINK IT'S A LOT SLOWER
"AND WIFE SEEMS TO THINK IT'S A LOT SLOWER" yeah she is right.

|
sorry mate - bad news is that the STI170 is a dog of a car, and I would have gone for the TDCi instead :) - ah well - never mind :D:D
|
Nasty old Ford poo.
|
50 a week on petrol? I'm doing at least 3 - 4 times that :-(
Is there an LPG conversion? |
But it's a Ford.... I had an ST200 for my last company car: 205 bhp V6 special blue colour and sports suspension. Was fun for a while....and then:
A/C failed, A/C failed again, and then a third time. Rear driver side shock failed; car understeers badly, 4 visits before the main dealer believed me, then has to order part (4 weeks). After a run, engine revs itself to 3.5K while queuing in traffic - dealer thinks might due to split hose (no it wasn't). Engine makes "moose" noise (intermittent resonance in inlet manifold - sounds like a fog horn): known problem for Ford V6, 5 dealer visits no fix. Change dealers, and new ones find fault references - there is a fix, but only for ST24, nothing we can do sir as it is a lease car. Find cure on internet (stick 1/2" copper end cap into bypass pipe with small hole in it) - fixes "Mr Moose" (well thats what they call it) AND the ghost on the throttle problem at the same time - but no help from dealers. Tilt of back on drivers seat slips, have to adjust it at least once a week. Boot starts leaking and fills with water, and finally drivers seat electic hight adjustment fails. First service car comes back cleaned, after that no free car washing. I think part of the problem is that most Ford dealers never see a high performance version (only 500 ST200 in UK), and they haven't got a clue what to do with it. The other part of the problem is that it was a Ford, and the quality really isn't there. |
know what you mean rewolf but swings and roundabouts
scooby: inside everything rattles,no aircon so if new one breaks no hard ship, on 3rd maf,£158 for a bl**by oil change at subaru, police pulling you up every 5 mins "this your car sir" it's a bit on the loud side, £225 to renew tracker every year when my insurance quote is £210 more than last year:confused:so much for a cheaper quote. don't get me wrong love the car to bits but the pockets are getting a bit empty. will be back one day once bitten and all that.:D |
Simon99,
I must admit that I am pretty new to the Scooby owning experience, and I haven't yet been pulled by the Police (what Traffic Police - haven't they all been turned into speed cameras?). So far, the A/C works fine, no rattles, and the only noticable problems are a tyre that needs about a 3 psi top-up once a week, and a flimsy feeling boot release. I was also very lucky to catch the first day of the free servicing offer, get a good loan deal, and I'm enough of an old fart that LV have given me a good insurance rate. The only problem with my wife is keeping heer out of the drivers seat - she does have a forrester of her own after all. I might change my views in a year when everything comes up for renewal, and the car has relaxed a bit. Good luck with the new car, you might get a good one, and have a decent servicing department at the dealers that know what they are doing - if not we might see you back again.... |
Rewolf
thanks mate i'm no spring chicken myself will be back one day :D as for my wife could'nt get her in the drivers seat "don't want to drive might scratch your new wheels"!!!!!! OH WELL. sure i won't be able to get her out of the st she loves the focus :( |
Good luck with the new car, mate. ST170's aren't that slow and I actually quite like them.
|
Hi Simon, I have joined you to, just got rid of my STi UK MY03 cos the feekin flat battery problem couldn't be resolved so I have gone right down the scale to a VW Golf GT TDi 150 so don't feel that bad as you still have 20 horses more than me to play with. Must admit was gutted to sell the scoob but needed a car that would start for me after leaving it for a few days, anyway the Golf is a little nippier than I first thought and I get 45 to the gallon, £200 quid a year cheaper insurance and £115 quid a year road tax. Guess it depends what you want. Good luck with the Focus M8.

Just parted with my MY98 this week for a Legacy 2.0iS. Needed something more family orientated.
At least it's still a Subaru! Ade. |
yep, wifes MY01 WRX went, just too much money to justify, and then £500 a year insurance... so we went down to a 96 Celica 1.8ST, all 114 bhp of it :)
BUT! Full main dealer major cambelt service costs... just £212.00.. and insurance is loose change compared to the scoob, as is petrol cost. AND she loves it :) Still costing me £500 for 17" alloys though ;) |
Mine was in Scoobyclinic for little under a month due to a minor ding dong i had:( i was gutted didn't know what to do at weekends, as the 406 TD doesn't quite have the same pull as the scooby, so god knows what im gonna be like when, or if the day comes i have to sell her :(:(
|
Simon, what are you doing mate:confused:! Just when we had a little Hemel Scoob community going on! Now be a sensible chap and do what u said u were gonna do a couple of weeks back and take that test drive in the STi - u know it makes sense:)
U know it will be impossible for u to drive past the Chequers in a ST170 without shedding a tear:( |
