Clutch

What sort of mileage would you expect it to last in a WRX STI PPP (not used for track days) and How much is it to get it changed ?

steve_g 13 May 2004 10:20 PM

Are clutches covered under warranty??

Neilo 13 May 2004 10:31 PM

i think if they are treated well you could get at least 50k if not more out of one, my WRX (03) is just ticking over 15k and ive done a 1/4 mile day once and drive it relatively hard in general. Mine is not slipping noticably yet, hardly at all in fact. But i think that if i do another 1/4 day, which i will be that it would probably last about the same again for me, so 30k.

Not sure if that helps at all!!

Neil.

rfowler:-

£320, that's not bad. Was that done at a Subaru dealer ?

Brun 14 May 2004 07:48 AM

Scoob dealer = £700+

What if ? 14 May 2004 07:53 AM

Wow ! Well I suppose if you have done 50k miles it probably aint under warranty anyway.

When I spoke to Soton Branch they said they do not buy in 2nd hand scooby's that have not had all the service / repair work done by a dealer. When I come to sell would it be a problem if I did have work done else where or are the speaking bull, just to make sure you go to them ?

StiX 14 May 2004 08:27 AM

I just had my MY95 WRX serviced yesterday, asked about clutch and they said about £400. Not main dealer, local garage that does a lot of work on scoobys.

Scoobyclinic = £275 fitted :D

steve_g 14 May 2004 09:54 AM

Are clutches classed as wear and tear items like brake pads etc?

My car is a 53 plate STi so I have about 2.5 years warranty remaining.

If my clutch went in say 18 months would it be replaced under warranty or would I have to pay for it??

Bloody hell thats good. Just been on their website, prices excellent - do those prices include VAT?

Cambelt supplied and fitted for £125, semi-race clutch for £375 nice prices.

This a good place to go? Sorry can't be arsed to trawl through previous posts!

Oops, just looked again at website and prices don't include VAT. Still pretty good though, especially clutch prices.

Clutches are no longer covered by Subaru UK as they are classed as a wear and tear item, they should have a life expectancy of over 100k in reality, even with a little abuse ;)

Scoobyclinic did an uprated clutch on mine, but as my flywheel was shagged i figured it would be impolite not to fit a billet flywheel too so the total bill was around £800 :D
The clinic is a place i would be more than happy to use again :D

had a new clutch back in september at what appeared to be the very good price of £360 including fly wheel skimming and vat.9 months and 7k miles later its slipping like a turkish whore down a water slide!ive returned to the garage from hwence it came and apparently they wont take it back as its a where and tare item.Admittedly i do drive like a w****r but i'd guess for only 3k of the 7(at least 2 of them are motorway miles).is this to be expected for my brutalitie with the clutch?the garage in question has offered me an uprated clutch and fly wheel at the meaguer cost of £1304  "this figure does include vat sir",thats ok then,a bargin ;) i have just booked it into the scoob main dealers for new clutch and fly wheel for £760 + vat they are addemant that they only fit subaru parts and will honer the years warrenty.have i made the correct choice or should i have gone for the semi race stuff at the import specialist and coughed up an extra £400 odd quid?

Brun 14 May 2004 04:23 PM

Nope - you should have gone to the Clinic ;)
