Anywhere he can start looking at EU prices? cheers guys http://www.motorpoint.co.uk/ New WRXs for £16,599 and STIs for £21,599 - EU imports. |
superb thanks. if you got an EU import would it affect insurance? it'll still be a UK car yes/no?
|
EU import is classed as a parallel import, same insurance bracket as uk cars, the only import that costs more to insure is japanese imports :)

Having this conversation on another forum actually. As far as I'm aware Subaru are offering 3 year warranty on EU cars as from 1st May. However I thought Cyprus and Malta were non-EU countries and hence the cars are classed as "Grey".
Motorpoint/Carcraft cars are from here I believe. |

holland imports are common, dont carpoint get their imports from there?
|
Just double check the warranty if buying an import or from a supermarket. I've heard that some of the 'cheaper' car supermarkets are only offering 1 year warranties on new WRX's.
I paid £19600 for my new MY04 Wagon from a dealer 5 weeks ago. Dealer gave me just over 5% discount and gave me a fair price on MY99 Wagon trade-in. You can save a fortune on buying from a supermarket or getting an import.... it's just not for me :) J. |
Also remember that UK dealers are doing 3 years free servicing with all new Subarus except the STI....might be worth haggling them down on the price then youll save on the servicing.....

what's the score when you come to trade an import in at a dealer ??
last year when i traded my clio 172 in they wanted to know if it was a uk car ! |
Just ordered a MY04 WRX in World Rally Blue. Managed to knock him down to £18,500. Included a set of mats aswell worth £60 and three years free servicing.
Wish he would hurry up an deliver the car now ! |
When I got mine (in December last year) I spoke to two dealers, both of whom offered a discount because I asked for it. I got a WRX with metallic paint for £18600 and all the back up that goes with buying from a dealer. I used the price I got online from "drive the deal" as a lever, and both matched it.
If I were a dealer, I would sell you a car and make very little profit rather than not sell it at all. Haggle hard & good luck... |
Just to let you know, I just got a call back from Motorpoint.
WRX - £16599 + £599 (3 years warrenty) + £399 (Thatcham Sigma alarm as supplied in UK car). Takes the total up to £17597. I think I'd be happier in paying the extra £1k to get a full UK car... if I were to get a new one. |
and if you bear in mind the 3 years servicing, the £1k difference comes down quite a lot to almost nothing - maybe £300?
|
That £17597 I would assume includes free servicing for the two additional years?
|
I don't think the car from Motorpoint would include any free servicing.
You may need to be quick as the offer of free servicing for three years finishes on the 30th June 2004 (I think this is what the advert on the Subaru web site says anyway). |
