MG ZT260 and RS Focus test drives

Hi all,

Went down to MG garage on Saturday to try out the 4.6v8 260, but unfortunately all 4 tyres were illegal and so they wouldn't let me out in it.

However, next Saturday they'll let me have it for the whole day - on my own :D. But I did sit in it and start it up - and what a noise ! The car shakes and the engine burbles, mmmmmmm. Might just be tempted.
I care not for the MG haters, it's warrantied and got a v8 Mustang engine with the drive now going to the right wheels :D Interior was ok, had SatNav\Harman Kardon stereo etc. I'll let you know what it's like.....

However, I did test drive an RS Focus on Saturday. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I wasn't impressed. The torque steer is no where near as bad as the uninformed will tell you, a 156GTA is MUCH worse. Handling was ok, not special. Acceleration was ok, not special. Like I said, maybe my expectations where too high. LOVE the way it looks though.

The other problem I have is that I was probably subconsciously comparing its performance to my very modified MR2 turbo - which is a very unfair comparison.

Still not found what I'm looking for, but hopes are high for the MG. Quite liked the RX8 too.

Cheers

It NEVER is!! For uninformed read : Too many pathetic, over-driving, mechanically unsympathetic, limp-wristed Motoring Journos...no names, no pack drill, but, you know the ones ....:)

Just my 'mumble' opinion of course ..:)

Lets us know how you get on with the ZT260 .... and how come illegal tyres...

Hi John,

The car I looked at was a 53 reg with 10k on the clock, so I suspect general wear and tyre. My tyres last roughly 10k, so I wasn't too shocked.

However, I think I read in the brochure last night that the V8 has a 5k service interval ! Seems very often to me, it's not exactly a new, hi-tech engine either, would've thought normal service intervals would be sufficient ?

I'll let you know how I get on.

I've driven the MGZT 260. Don't be put off with the poor power output the torque and the way the car goes is astounding.

The handling and ride is excellent, remember all development was done by Prodrive.
Build also seems very good, the ZT/75 always does well in customer satisfaction and reliability surveys.

Only downside is the fuel, be ready for some big petrol bills.

There are already some big discounts to be had so haggle hard.

Cheers
Lee
