bios password on omnibook
 

Hi peeps.
well after being on the look out for a new screen for my omnibook 6000, I finally managed to get a full laptop for spares.

To cut a long story short, the bios on the new laptop is password protected.
Does anyone know how I can get around this

ok, do you know the manufacturer of the motherboard?, do a google for the master password.

Otherwise, from cmd prompt use the MS-DOS debug utility to create a checksum error:

When you get to the C:\> or C:\WINDOWS> prompt, type DEBUG and press Enter.


A hyphen (-) prompt will appear waiting for you to enter commands.


Enter the following commands, pressing Enter after each one. Note: the o is the letter o and stands for OUTPUT.


o 70 2e


o 71 ff


q


After the q command (which stands for QUIT), enter Exit

When it starts up, all it gives you is either F2(setup) or F10(DiagTools), but no matter what you press, it comes up with the password prompt.

Ive only managed to get checkSum up by removing the cmos battery, but then it defaulted and again asked for password.
Ive searched the net, quite extensively and nothing really seems to come up.
Ive tried all the passwords mentioned to try.
All some sites say is to flash the Eprom as one of them stores the password.
But im sure there is a easier way.
Ill get onto HP tomorrow, but they say on their site the want proof of purchase.
How am I meant to get that when the lappy was bought from e-bay as spares or repair?lol

OPen the battery compartment, nect to it is a jumper switch, move it from pins 1and 2 to 2 and 3, power on, nothing will happen, leave for a few secs. Move pin back to 1 and 2, voila, bios wiped.

I assumed the bios security was for setup not startup :(

Try HP, normally are helpful tbh, just tell em it was inherited or something, failing that whip out the scewdriver and reset the cmos manually :D

sounds an iffy purchase though!

I cant see no jumpers in or near the battery compartment.
Looking at the mobo, I cant even see one jumper, or is it just me?

sti555, no worries mate, my fault, I should have explained better. sorry.

How would i reset it manually, ive removed the battery, but nothing, and i got that checksum error, then password prompt.

Ill take some pics if that helps in anyway?

You need to remove the small internal battery not the battery pack that powers the laptop.

When you open up the laptop be carefull not to expose components to electrostatic shock, make sure you touch a metal part of the chasis to discharge yourself.

Have a look around the small internal battery which looks about the size of a 2p piece but silver, most HP equipment has a button marked CMOS reset, press it and it will reset the bios. Failing that remove the internal battery from the motherboard for a few hours, this should force factory settings when you reboot.

What we do when we get a system like this is to remove the cmos battery and short the connections for about thirty seconds. (While the unit is powered off and the main battery removed). This usually does it, but failing that, the password is held in the system eprom and that would have to be replaced.

I have a superb utility for cracking BIOS passwords. We've had 100% success rate with it.
