Passat 1.9 TDI 130bhp 03 plate

Guys,

Just got a Passat 1.9 TDI 130, and i must say that it is alot more fun than i thought it would be, it is a big car that doesnt drive like one.

My questions are:

Is there a forum for VW's or these cars

has anyone had one that they have ahad chipped, what does this do to the performance and warranty on the car etc. What Bhp would it go to and would it be noticable? lot in that isnt there.

It is a great family car as the scooby keeps waking babies, lol........dash is superb!

right then i await the answers of the Gurus!!

thanks

I've got the same engine in a previous series Golf that I've just bought - cracking car :)

Have a look at www.auto-amd.com - a little expensive, but the power gains look pretty impressive and AmD have a very good reputation :)

Skoda boys with that engine recommend Jabbasport who'll be able to get 184-196bhp out of the engine. Also notice the torque figures ;) Revo seem to be a favourite tuner for the Seat people with the same engine.....

There aren't any specific UK Passat forums, but the best for PD diesels are www.seatcupra.net/forums and www.uk-mkivs.net -- lots of experience with Revo, Jabba etc on both, lots of stuff to search for!

Which model did you get, the S, SE or Sport? The Sport 6-speed box is rated higher for torque so can be taken a little further with a chip.

For Passats in general, check out www.clubb5.com. Based in the States, so not many diesels, but a useful site for other stuff.

To add to Chris S199 's comment on Jabbasport / Skoda, there is a lot of information and comment about the 130PD engine on www.briskoda.net

I've used Jabba on my Octavia 1.8T after several Audis with other tuners, and have nothing but praise for them

Go on to Briskoda & contact TaviaRS, Jabba have just re-mapped his 130 to 206 little horsies with loads & loads of Torque, Smokes a tadge when really pushed but its a match for my 1.8T which dynoed at 228 bhp.

Jabba also mapped our 110 Diesel Octy to 164 bhp, again with loads of Torque & it runs rings around the smaller TT's which I think are meant to be 180, it really pisses them off.

To add, the S4 engine is an easy fit into the passat, 350 bhp, fwd anyone !!

TaviaRS 05 May 2004 05:52 PM

Yep, mine has been remapped. Now running a fairly sensible 206bhp and 368 lb/ft. Economy in normal usage is between 49 and 53. Taking it very gently I got 72 mpg  However, on track it drops down to 16.8 :D Fast A road stuff it drops to about 40mpg.

A good engine. If it's new, keep an eye on the oil level, it will use about 1 - 1.5 litres in the first 10k miles.

Add some coilovers and uprate the brakes and it becomes quite a useful bit of kit.

Just waiting for my ceramic clutch to come in so we can turn it up a bit more (we detuned it as there were concerns over the standard clutch taking more than 400 lb/ft).

Hope that helps.

Re oil consumption I would agree with Tavia, it will use a bit of oil at first & if you are on variable servicing which you probably are then it needs a special oil so suggest you carry a bottle in the boot. You can add a good quality oil in an emergency & that is detailed in the owners handbook, not sure of the quantity, I think its 1/2 a litre but remember this reduces the quality of the oil. It wont be detrimental to the engine life but part of the variable servicing system is an oil analyser so if the quality of the oil drops the service is required earlier.
Our 110 bhp used about a litre in the first 10000 miles, its now done about 43000 & we havent had to top up the oil since. The first service(variable) was at 29500 so it had a oil change then

I've got a Skoda Superb with the PD130 engine on order - looking forward to the torque :D
