Half of Brits want to quit the UK
Maybe the Scoobyney demographic is more representative than some claim:
"MORE than half of Brits want to get OUT of the UK for good — just as East Europeans are queuing to get IN, a survey reveals. Twenty-four per cent of those who want to emigrate said they were disillusioned with Britain. Many said they were fed up with the threat of terrorism and the asylum fiasco. Experts predict up to 54,000 East Europeans could head to the UK when ten new countries join the EU on Saturday. But meanwhile 52 per cent of Brits want a new life abroad. Of those, 33 per cent said the weather was the main reason. Other factors were the high cost of living (18 per cent) and soaring crime (12 per cent)." All thanks to New Labour. UB:( |
Bull!
I don't believe that more than 50% want to leave....... Where did you read that!? |
I know I certainly want to, partly due to the house prices, labour government, police forces not necessarily having the right focus (putting it diplomatically! ;)), weather, oh and the list goes on and on.........
|
Yep, have to agree with that.
I moved to Spain in June 2002 and have no regrets. The mmain reasons for me were: 1. Crap UK IT job mkt 2. Crap weather 3. High cost of living 4. Crap quality of life Dunno if I could ever go back now! Mart. |
The grass is always greener...
The grass always looks greener on the other side and luckily, sometimes it even is. :p
Suresh (Brit in Holland) |
i lived overseas for 5 years, but came back last year, despite cheap living, better quality of life and a list of other things, there are some things you can only get at home, thats what i had to come back for, dont ask me to list them, its personal to me.
|
The main reason i would go is because everything now in this country is take take take!!! & rock all changes, it really is 5hite
|
Its always got **** weather, the winter is megga depressing and a newly washed and polished motor dosent stay very washed and polished for very long:mad:
|
Moving abroad is something I really want to look into, and for similar reasons.
Maybe we should 'Poll' this one ? I'd leave tomorrow ! Matt |

If i could leave the UK and had the means to live somewhere else i'd go today nevermind tomorrow!

I myself am interested in moving abroad out of the UK, the problem is where to. My reasons being the state of affairs this country is in due to the government, and the job market just sucks ass especially the IT sector. The more immigrants that come in will just also keep forcing down the already poor wages. I was earning more 10 years ago than I have been earning lately :(
Anyone left the Uk and willing to give some tips on the best way to approach this i.e. looking for jobs abroad etc. Living in scotland, im not really into moving to somewhere really hot, Holland or Germany would suit me i think. |
Official figures have people leaving the UK @ 90,000 pa atm.
I'm still happy with Scotland, relatively uncrowded, fresh air, not too many speed cameras, nice scratchin roads, affordable housing - still crappy weather though. |
RRB exactly what I was thinking, which country would you move to?
I'm sure that even if you left most of the issues behind that are mentioned in this thread, you will end up finding just as many problems with the country you move to. They may not be to do with crime, crap weather etc but I'm sure they would become just as anoying? |
Language barrier would worry me

Move to the North East of Scotland, good IT jobs (especially games coders and 3D graphics) very cheap houses, virtually no immigrats (except for english).
E.G. IT manager on £40k can get 4-4.5 times wage on his own giving at least 160K mortgage, this would buy a brand new detached five bedroom house with double garage in Dundee/Broughty Ferry. If your partner worked full time say 15k to 20k then you can have a mansion on the beach and a title (slight exageration, but you get the picture). Also you can rent out a 30k 2bed flat for £450 a month. |

Here in Portugal we already have a large British expat community.
A hell of a lot of them don't talk to the Portuguese, haven't learned more than 20 words of the language in 10 years except to direct a taxi, spend most of the time complaining about how crap the country is and that it wasn't like it used to be (because there's more foreigners coming in), the high prices, the corruption in public services, the lack of efficient police force, the sh!tty drivers... ...sounds familiar? And the younger ones are intent on going out and getting pi55ed as often as possible. So if you think you might fall into that category, I have an official message from all my Portuguese friends: FCUK OFF, WE DON'T WANT ANY MORE OF YOU THANKS. |
RRB - even Aberdeen (surrounding areas, like COVE, Balmedie etc) is not that much dearer to live than Dundee/Fife. City Centre is extortionate but like that anywhere.
|
Already left.
Reasons? Simple: crime, lack of respect for people, lack of respect for people's property. End of story. Why do people in England accept that car crime "just happens"? Incredible . Happy in Munich :D where my car can be parked anywhere, any time, and will still be there when I get back, not keyed, scratched, or nicked. |

Part of the problem in this country is that the population is getting stupider, because intelligent people aren't having kids. Christ knows how bad things could get before there's a reversal in that trend!

Wish we were allowed to say that about foreigners. |
