Wouldn't have a clue about any problems, but I know the current WRX doesn't tow an awful lot (only 1,200kgs)

I'll tell you Saturday lunchtime when I get back from Booker after towing a plane down there for repair :)

If it's no good, that's a few quid wasted :(

Cheers, mate - will do. It's gonna be a strange sight :D

Towing with the Impreza is fine - as long as the noseweight is under 50kg! or the rear wheels scrape on the inside of the arches!

The P1 cannot tow - it can't let people in the back without opening the front doors either! Quite what it does over a standard Turbo is beyond me, but thats another story!

i towed my friend lwb vaux frontier about 20 miles with no probs and my tow bar is only held in with 3 bolts! just keep it off boost if you can and its fine.

tow my Sea-doo Jet-ski with my STI MY03, hardest thing is watching your speed!
No problems at all.

Mate of mine towed his racing car on a trailer with his UK model. Never had a problem.

cool.thanks for the repies guys.gonna get my boat soon hopefully.

cheers.

ThrustSSC 30 April 2004 11:01 PM

OK, some news to report. My MY03 STi tows beautifully - nice and stable up to a Golf TDi-burning-off sort of speed :D The only problem is the plane was too big for the trailer, so I can't report on towing a really serious load. Sorry about that.

But hauling a 22ft trailer at 60mph (ahem!) it's just dandy.

We've still got the plane to move, so Plan B is to convert the tailwheel to a tow hitch and just tow the thing on its main gear backwards down to Booker :) If that comes off, I'll let you know how we get on.

Look forward to the outcome :)

I tow a 17' speedboat with my 1998 turbo and it is fine, as has been said keep the weight on the hitch to a sensible figure and all should be OK. A few hundred miles will make no difference, if you do a few thousand a year I am sure that will have a big detrimantal effect on the car.

Incidentally burnt off some spotty youth in a Saxo last week in my Scoob whilst towing the boat!

Sounds like we have a new game to entertain ourselves with - burning off chavs in Saxo while towing a load :D

Must go buy an old caravan... (Mentioned this idea to scoobyboy last week and he wasn't impressed :))

A friend used to tow his Pug 309 rally car on a double axle trailer with his MY99 Turbo. It was unreal how fast it accelerated with all that weight being towed and usually it felt very stable. Just make sure you get the weight on the hitch right. The one and only dodgy incident was on a stretch of duel carriageway which had ruts in the road from all the HGV's. There was a nasty bit of fishtailing from the trailer, so be warned and take it easy.

The tow weight was definitely over the maximum recommended, but mechanically it had no problems, though it did have a P1 clutch fitted.

wakeboardar 01 May 2004 11:27 AM

ive towed a 21 foot boat and had no problems on the road

but i did have some nasty clutch smells on a few steep slipways

greg.g 01 May 2004 09:21 PM

Out of curiosity i just checked my handbook for my MY98 for maximum nose weights allowed.
There was no mention that i could see:confused:
With the numbers of people towing trailers and jet skis etc these days, you would have thought that subaru would print this information.

KaraK 02 May 2004 10:03 AM

My MY98 UK had been used by the previous owner for towing and mechanically its been fine, had the clutch inspected and it was ok. The only thing I had was that the rear springs were relatively worn, this wasnt even that bad. He did 72k in it by the way although I have no idea of how much of that was towing.
