terrible brake feel...

I have had my MY00 Wagon for two days now and can't get over how bad the brakes feel and their general lack of bite...my Focus had amazing brakes so this is a disappointment.

Dose anybody have any suggestions to improve the feel and bite?

any number of threads on here regarding this.......................could be as simple as "old2 fluid and worn pads, poor quality components used, been abused and over-heated in the past, etc......................
best advice is to find out what you currently have, how new, etc............and go from there!!

I had a similar problem coming from a 306 GTI6 which had incredible brakes to an MY 00 UK car and nearly ran out of road coming up to roundabouts the first few weeks of ownership.

Unfortunately brakes isnt a strong point of the classic shape impreza as is well documented on this forum, even though its sometimes easy to assume a car with four pots should have good brake performance. Once you've found out if your brakes are indeed working properly or not the usual route is a disk and pad upgrade, which I did, but they wont give that much improvement.

Bigger disks is one way of getting better performance and Ian Godney of godspeed offers some very cost effective big brake kits.

Hope you get it all sorted,

Cal

drop the fluid out first, remove the pads, and de-glaze them. come back and talk to us if that doesn't get you the results you want or if you need advice / assistance.

we're a friendly bunch here (mostly) ;)

sorry, forgot to say you need to replace the fluid too:D

use dot5.1, super dot4 (not regular dot4), or mintex blue.

good people

many thanks for your recommendations, I think its part learning curve too...as I said the Focus brakes were fantastic!

I've got next week off so I shall have a brake play then and let you'll know!!
