I have done 4,000 miles and 3 trackdays with my Prodrive/Alcon upgrade. I now notice numerous hairline cracks in my discs. I went through a set of DS2000 pads in my first track day and have since replaced with DS3000. Opinions?

Its the usual DS3000 pad problem isnt it !?
Theyre menat to be great - but tend to sacrfice your disc !!!!!

I had my original Alcons supplied with DS3000's and within 6000 miles my disk were shagged.
Had disks and pads(DS2000's) replaced under warranty and even after 2 track days and 4000 miles my disks still look brand new http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif
The problem lies in the DS3000's, they are very good but just to hard for the disks. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif
Prodrive now only supply the Alcon upgrade with the DS2000 pads after numerous complaints and replacements.

DS2000 exhibit high wear when used above their max temp figure of 450-500 degrees, hence the high pad wear when you used them on a circuit.

DS3000 wear much better than DS2000 if driven the same way, but on the road they can give higher disc wear when the layer that is deposited when hot, is then removed if the pads are run cold.

Our recommendation is to run DS2000 on the road and as you have experienced high pad wear on the track with DS2000, fit DS3000 only for track work. The materials are compatible on the same disc so you can change from one to the other as often as you like.

Small cracks are normal when the brakes are used very hard. They are only a potential problem if they are longer than 10mm or reach the outer edge of the disc.

The problem is that my DS2000 pads supplied witht the kit only lasted less than a week......one track day included. SO I "upgraded" to DS3000 on my dealer's recommendation. Have I got a warrenty claim?

I am guessing here, but the DS2000 may spare the discs at the expense of their own life.
The DS3000 may live longer, but the discs are wasted frequently.

So, the option may be changing the discs or the pads on a regular basis, depending if you have the DS3000 or the DS2000.
In that case I prefer changing the pads as they are lighter on my wallet...

Saw your reply in my previous post... it seems the DS3000 pads are not meant for people like us, who can't afford to change discs every 4000 miles.

I have ordered my new set, with DS2000 pads. Shame I do not like in England, as I would like to check out the warranty!
