Single clicking sound under braking - MY00

Hi Folks

My MY00 ( UK turbo ) has just started making a single clicking noise when braking.

It only seems to happens if I have not used the brake pedal for a short period of time ( ie.. doesnt do it immediately again after I have just braked ) & doesnt seem to do this when pottering along in traffic.

Location wise, i have not managed identify where this coming from yet.

Any ideas anyone
Cheers
Rich

ps..the only recent work done on the brakes was to get local dealer to change fluid to dot 5.

Maybe the pads moving in the caliper? Does it make then sound if reversing and applying the brakes?

Hi Stefan

Its a different sound to the standard reversing clonk that comes from the rears ( the one the dealers responce is always "they all do that sir! " ). its more high pitch and sounds kind of like metal under tension being released or giving way

Could movement in the caliper be more common as the pads wear down?... im just thinking my rears have never been changed in my ownerhsip and maybe are a bit low and creating this noise ( fronts have just been changes 3 months ago to ferrodo DS2500 and Godspeed discs so these will be fine )

Cheers

Could be that the pins going through the pads are corroded and causing them to jam for a moment before hitting the disc - it tends to make more of a cracking sound.
Rubbing the pins down with sandpaper and coating in copper grease solved it for me.

Hi Nick,

Cheers for the suggestion...I listened to it more carefully this morning and its from the fronts. It does sound like a cracking noise like you mentioned so I'll give this a go tonight.

I had a clicking noise coming from MY01 STi when i was breaking and managed to find the cause of this was the Intercooler spray was low so the light kept clicking on and off.
Once i filled up the IC in engine it went away.

Dont know if this wil help you but thought i would post anyhow. ;)

Yes this worked for me. Mine were really clogged up with grit ( stuck to original copper slip on the pins ). I just took the 2 pins out + spring clip and cleaned with engine / brake / wheel cleaner ( anyone will do ) , gave the pins a rub down with sandpaper and copper slipped again.

20 min job including jacking the car up.

Cheers
