For my third post to Scoobynet, a little drama I had the misfortune of viewing.
At a rallycorss in rural Kansas, an Impreza running on fifteen inch steel rims, popular for snow tires and budget dirt road wheels. While it held well during runs in the morning, repeated lapping of the course in the heat finally caused the left front wheel to literally tear itself from the car, leaving it stuck about halfway through the course. With the exception of the torn wheel and bent fender, the car was drivable and even retained its alignment; the one upside to racing on dirt. Pictures are at |
I can't delete the repost.

I've seen this happen a few times with stock cars on steel rims . The rim usually tears around the middle , leaving the centre still bolted to the hub .
