Last night was the first time I worked the brakes hard on my RB5.
When braking hard as the car slows right down I can hear a slight droning noise.
The car is 2 years old with 24K miles.
I bought it from a Scooby main dealer.
If it is shafted discs; do you reckon I could get them under warranty?

Looking at the discs, they look OK and dont have any strange noises on them.

Have you had new tyres fitted??
If you have they could be off a different compound which might cause this noise your getting.

Had the same on my RB5. It's the pads/disks overheating. Common to all standard 4 pot set-ups. I upgraded calipers and disks. If it doesn't happen very often then try upgrading the pads first - EBC Greens for example. Also check the condition of the pads. When they get 'low' the situation gets worse.

Also I do have new tyres on it as well.

I run grooved Black Diamond disks and Mintex 1155's and they drone quite audibly when hot.

I'm pretty sure they were a lot quieter when they were first fitted but as there has been no obvious loss of braking performance and no vibrations (can be felt through the pedal) I can just about live with it, even though it's a little bit disconcerting for passengers sometimes.

Can this happen with plain disks as well or is it due to the grooves?

Stephen -- how long have you been running this combo? I've got EBC Greens and Black Diamonds and I suspect the pads have shafted the discs in 9k miles -- thinking of changing to Mintex 1144s or 1155s.

I got them in October and after having them, new fluid and braided lines professionally fitted, I did a track day at Snetterton and they were significantly better than the Standard MY00 set up IMHO.

Since then, I have done about 7k, mainly motorway and Alpine stuff (out here in Switzerland) and the surface of the disks still looks very good to me and there is plenty of pad material left. It's just the drone I'm not really keen on.

The Mintex 1155 pads appear to have a high metal-content in them (you can see what appears to be 'metal filings' embedded in the surface of the pad material). At first sight, I thought that they would make a meal out of (any) disk but so far, I have not had cause for alarm.

They squeal a bit (now and again) and you can hear them working when the windows are down.

I have had no problems with cold-performance.

Sorry, don't know anything about the 1144s.

My MY00 wheels are getting a bit scruffy but this could just be down to my laziness over the winter!
