Are 18/62-16 Michelin S7E's suitable for trackdays (and the correct size)
I know the S7E is the compound type but cant remember if this is soft or hard. Also, I have no idea what the 18/62 means (doh!)

18 means that they are 180 mm wide . 62 means that they are 620 mm in circumference around the tyre . IHMO these are too narrow and too high a profile for track days . The closest sized slick to the standard 205/50/16 tyre is a 20/61-16 . Not sure about the compound .

I think Derek is right, except that 62 is the dynamic diameter (not circumference) and is used to calculate gear ratios.

I've used this size and they are perfect.

No one makes a 61 and no one makes a 62 in a 200 (20).

This is the optimum size.

The 18/62 16 are used on Renault Spiders and can be sourced cheaply, one race old.

I haven't seen any 20/61 16 over here. If available these would be perfect.

The second number is the diameter of the tyre, in centimetres. The standard tyre is 61.5cm so 61 or 62 is the target diameter.

You can get 20/61-16 slicks . I have 2 of them (michelins) and have used them on track days . They are nearly identical in size to a 205/50-16 road tyre ( I measured them both and compared ) . According to my tyre supplier that is a popular size in rallying so 2/h tyres should be plentiful - and he knows his stuff . He specialises in motorsport tyres and supplies a lot of the top rally teams in Ireland . Only problem is that there is no rallying on at the minute to produce any 2/h tyres !
