SCOOBYWAVE IN FRANCE/SPAIN

It Exists!

Just come hom e from a Scooby tour de France and over nearly 3000 miles, lots of towns and villages noticed the following....

* Saw 4 other Imprezas, 2 Classics, 1 MY03 WRX and 1 MY03 Sti !
* The french seem to like Scoobs :) Got thumbs Ups and Waves all over the place... was good for the first few days but annoying for the rest!
* The Gardemarie dont like scoobs.... they stopped me at every check point they had up and running :( LOL

The Other Scoobs all Had the Scoobywave going on... which brought a smile to my face...

Average miles per tank was about 260 to 280 which I was pleased with given I was going reletively fast most of the time ;) ....
Wasnt impressed with my lap time for the Monaco GP Circuit... about 8 minutes LOL.. then again there was some heavy traffic ! ;) The tunnel sounds awesome on full chat ;)

Other than that had a great trip and some great drives throught the Mountains. Ill post ssome pictures up soon once
Thank u Scoob

Glad you enjoyed yourself and avoided being fined by the gendarmerie. I live in France and as you say they love to stop Imprezas, especially foreign ones.

As I'm sure you noticed Subarus in general are pretty rare here, Impreza GT's/Turbos even more. I've seen 4 or 5 in the last year which gives you some idea of how few there are. It's good to be different.

Saw two French reg turbo imprezas in a supermarket carpark in the alps at Easter, parked within 6 cars of each other. One was an Sti - heard it before I saw it. :D

Yeah I had a good trip, I tried not to take the Mickey with the speeds as I could do without a fine, found all bar one of the Gendarmarie were not very friendly.. Didnt really realise when they said everything is fine, they just handed me my papers then walked off! only one said thankyou and goodbye!

The small Villages and towns got a lot of interest with people taking photos and having a look, which is nice but a bit scarey on the Saftey of the car...

The best bit was in Monaco when we did a lap of the GP circuit and went near the Casino, there were people looking at Ferraris and Lambo's etc and I pulled up and they turned and took pictures of my car :) Kinda felt special :p lol

The only time I was in Monaco, was for the '98 Monte' Rally, so my first Scooby was still on order :( Drove the circuit in a hired Renault Megane Scenic and nobody batted an eyelid :(

[note to self] Must go back to Monaco [/note to self]

My only run in with the French Gendames was crossing the border from Germany.

Stopped me in British Reg'd RHD Scooby, conversation went like this!

Gendame: Parle vous Francais?
Me: NON! (with smug grin)
Gendame: Sprechen sie Deutsch? (with smug I speak foreign languages grin!)
Me: JA! (with smug I'll speak German but not French to you grin!)
Gendame: Do you speak English? (looking p1ssed off 'cos I could speak German and he couldn't!)

He then just asked where I was travelling from/to and let me go!
I drove off LMFAO!:D:D:D:D

It's not just Scoobs that are as rare as hen's teeth. Anything moderately decent seems to be scarce over there, the only Scoob I saw was in Almunecar where I went mad flashing my lights at him only to realise that a) I was driving my wife's Z4 and b) it was on a Spanish plate so it's unlikely that he was a Scoobynetter.

All in all I didnt have any problems tho.. just questions...

Was funny when a Guy in Cannes recognised my car from where I live having seen it in and around essex :) Small world eh! :)

Yeah, I notice that alot with French people. Its seems to me more of an issue that English speaking people don't speak any other languages rather than not wanting to speak English itself.

When I go to France now, if I can't say what I want in French I ask them to speak German (not a chance ;)), they will usually suggest English instead... they're then gutted when they realise you are English and you've tricked them :D
