Best Bulbs ?????????
 

Hi eveyone, just wanted to know if anyone knows whats the best headlamp bulbs on the market at the mo?? I've tried philips and osram but wasn't too impressed. :confused:

What year ?

Your best bet for bulbs is B&Q or Homebase, i hear they have a nice range of Tulips etc. LOL.

If you have a early classic, the headlights are known to be sh!t. Perhaps you may be better off changing the complete unit ?

I have Philips visionplus H4`s in my classic and i find them to be ok

I have the same.

I've got Osram Silverstars, and they're a huge improvement on the originals.

Thanks Red, I,m just back from homebase and its all true, they really are hammering down prices. I got some lovely tulips and some daffs. not sure how I'm going to fit them though. :D
Think I'm going to try some piaa bulbs. will keep you posted how I get on.

Having done a series of back to back tests, several of us were involved, including uprated wiring and relays the results were a little surprising.
Bulbs tested included:
Elta 100/80
Elta 130/90
Both illegal for road use but the reason for uprated wiring.
PIAA Super White 80/80 (Claimed equivalent 135/115)
PIAA Blue 60/55 130/120
Osram Silver Star +50%
Philips Vision Plus +50%.
The first two were about £7 each. The PIAA were £61.58 and £55.68 plus vat a pair respectively and the Osram and Philips were under £20 a pair.
The winner was G.E. Megalight + 60% (General Electric) Inclusive of postage from Andy Batters (01943 608892) these were under £20 a pair.

As a result I will not spend time and money in future to uprate wiring for "Rally" bulbs, even though the performance of the 130/90 was similar to the G.E. Plus 60s. The Osram probably had the edge on the Philips, a little behind the G.E. The huge disappointment was both lots of PIAA. What a big let down. Performance was inferior to all the other bulbs tested.

You won't be disappointed with them. Tell Andy Batters I put you on to him. When I think of bulbs, every time it reminds me of how much money I wasted on the PIAA and the Mega disappointment. (Pun intended. G.E. Mega Lights are tops!!!)

P.S. come on here and let us have your impressions when you have tried them.

I concur with Harvey in respect to these bulbs. For the outlay, you will see a noticeable difference over std bulbs but don't be disillusioned into thinking you'll get a light output like HID's. That is not what these are about, but will give you more confidence in dark unlit roads and will allow you to make good progress which the std affairs can't.

I can't comment on driving in dark, wet nights, though i expect they would be similar to the std bulbs in this respect.

better than the stock light seems "whiter" if that makes any sence. Beam is more defined.

I now have to get my lights re-alinged (they were out before but didn't notice it)

I have Osram silverstars. I bought them not so long ago and i'm very impressed with the light output. Some poeple even flash me cus they think i'm on full beam, thats never used to happen with the old ones.

Just a quick question, im a bit of a newb when it comes to headlights.

When upgrading the normal dipped beam you go for the H4 (size/shape???) bulbs, what if you want to do the same for the main beam as well? What do i look for?
