Does anybody know if its possible to use hidden balance weights when running AP 4 pots with standard 16 inch rims? If so where are the weights stuck?
I have asked at a couple of tyre places and they want to use the dreaded hammer on weights on the outside of the rim due to the closeness of the caliper to the wheel.
I don't want to use them if I can help it.

I have also removed the backplates because they touch the thicker discs and was wondering what the consensus of opinion is on doing this.Has it/will it cause any problems longterm?.

When I fitted my AP's I kept the back plates on it stops alot of the crap getting to the disc . I then had to get the wheels rebalanced and had stick on weights put only on the inside so you can't see them .

I removed the disk guard when fitting AP4 pots to my MY98 with standard 16" wheels.

9 months, 5 track days & 1 Tour D'Ecosse later I haven't had any problems. The drive shaft gaiters, etc all look okay. Might be worth fitting braided hoses just to be safe.

Removing the disk guard might cause things to get a bit dirtier but it helps cooling and prevents small stones getting stuck and damaging the disk.

Not sure about the hidden weights, I've always had the standard hammered on type. I assume you just need to be careful where they are fitted, the caliper is very snug.

You should use my tyre fitter, I've got the Brembo set-up, and he still wanted to use stick-on weights, even though I only have about 2mm clearance, I had to insist that he use hammer-on ones.
With regard to the disc sheilds, I bent mine slightly to clear the disc, therefore getting over any problems with the like of abs failure, and then dealer saying 'where have the sheilds gone?'
So for what it's worth I would keep them and just ease them a liitle.

You can still use stick on weights, but they must be fitted the most inner edge of the wheel.

This will mean that they can't hit the calliper.
