P6000s are not good enough for any impreza turbo. (and are expensive at 90ukp)

You really need Z rated tyres unless you have no real desire to heavily use your right foot http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif or want to slide your car everywhere http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

The p6000 is a mass produced tyre for the mass produced car market - standard fit on Vectras/Mondeos et al.

If you can't run to the S02s (which can be had at >100ukp/tyre from a number of places if you try hard enough), then go for the Toyos which with persuasion can be had for around 80ukp each.

I'm with Gary on this one.

An extra £20 a corner might seem a lot but it's well worth it. I've just swapped out of P6000's to S02's and the difference is incredible.

Go for it!

Most people I have spoken to have told me to replace my 205/50/16's with Bridgestones but at £140.00 a corner (inc fitting and balancing) I find these a little steep. I've found somewhere that will do me Pirelli P6000's for £90.00 a corner. Would I be crazy to turn this down???

Just read pmr's earlier post about the gaff in Wembley doing the Bridgestones at around £99.00 a corner. Would this be a better idea? Are they that much better to take a drive up there?

Thanks guys.

Maffa,

Rather than trekking up to Wembley, try Stapleton's in Hove. They'll do SO2s for £100 ea (incl valve & balance) if you're a SIDC member. Toyos c£81 ea or Pirelli P Zeros c£97. All prices for 205/50/16.

If you're not a SIDC member, prices c10% higher, but still pretty competitive.

Regards,

Hugh

Go for the Bridestones, The Pirelli P6000 aren't that good, no grip in the dry and even less in the wet. Too much noise for such low performance too. You don't need Z-rated, just some good hi-performance tires. Pirelli P7000 seems to be very good. The S02's also....

Ive had experience of p6000's in the past..
Stay well clear of them
They are terrible tyres imho..

The only thing that stops your car going off the road is the tyres (and the driver.....). Do you value your life so little that you won't spend the extra £120 or so on the best tyres???

MAFFA 16 April 2001 10:06 AM

Dave, I do value my life which is why I was asking which tyres were the best and where I could get them cheaper. At 100 notes a corner I think the SO2's are going on.

MAFFA 16 April 2001 12:43 PM

Will Do !!

Chris.Palmer 17 April 2001 01:19 PM

I've just had Pirelli P7000s fitted £85 a corner all in. I'm currently very impressed by the traction both in the wet & dry - an enormous improvement over the previous p6000s, not sure how long they'll last for though (treadwear rating is 140) and can't really compare to SO2s, but would interested to hear from anyone who has had both P7s & SO2s

GaryC 17 April 2001 01:51 PM

Have tried P7000s but not on an Impreza. They are a good tyre, but still a league behind Pirelli flagship P-Zeros, which in turn are a league behind S02s, especially in the wet.

Stupot 17 April 2001 03:05 PM

Maffa,
just to confuse matters, have u considered Goodyear Eagle F1s? Best wet/dry combination tyre I have ever used and under £100 quid a corner too fitted. Just tyres in Horsham supplied mine. They are on the road leading out of town going towards the St Leonards pub. Give em a call man and search the bbs for opinions on the tyre too http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Don't http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif they are not as good (wet or dry) as the SO2s, and at £100+VAT, more expensive http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif - see above http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

SO2s are the current flagship of Bridgestone Potenza range.

swa 18 April 2001 12:12 AM

I got BF Goodridge Profiler G (205ZR50x16 87W) for GBP 97 a corner all in.
I don't get the difference between 'V' rated and 'ZR' rated?

Seem good to me though I have not had much chance to try them in the wet yet.

Progressive in the dry but feel a bit wobbly which may have to do with going from 2mm thread on the original spec. Bridgestone 720s to 7mm on the BF Goodridges. By wobbly I mean that you can feel the tread blocks bending (I assume that is what is happening?). They are nice and sharp & pointy at higher speed though.

I didn't have time to shop around so I maybe paid too much.

Have you seen the cost of funerals these days though??? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif

I read your original post as saying (and still do) that you thought S02's were too dear and wanted something cheaper.....

MAFFA 18 April 2001 06:35 PM

Dave,

I've only had my Scooby for 3 months and have no idea of tyre prices for 16" wheels but you have to admit that someone trying to sting me for £140.00 a tyre is a bit much. Especially when I now know you can get the best for less than a ton.

Can't argue with that..... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif
