Uprated brakes for a 306 XSi?

My brother's got an M-reg 306 XSi. The brakes are a little soggy/weak (not suspected faulty, just lame!), and could do with beefing up. What's the best way to do this? I'm guessing steel braided hoses and some harder pads. Any particular recommendations? :) What about discs? He's not going to want to spend mega bucks on this, but it doesn't have to be done on a shoestring budget either.

...forgot to mention that it's for road use. No requirements for being track-capable.

Best thing you can do is get some Gti6 or Xsara Vts discs and calipers they are very good and you will have a notible imporvement. Combine these with a good pad like the 1144 and they will do the trick :)

Have a look on the Peugeot Gti Autosport forum, they usually have gti-6 set ups for sale, you could get the discs for the gti-6 or Xsara Vts from Euro Car Parts for peanuts, all you need then is the calipers, the set up on the gti is hard to beat for the money,

A set of decent pads (Mintex M1144, Ferrodo DS2500, etc), some new standard discs and replacing the brake fluid will help a lot.

Or for a superb setup, get the brakes off a GTi-6/Rallye, they are fantastic, even as standard and my Rallye had the best standard brakes of any car I've owned!

Thanks Gary -- sounds like a good plan. :)
