MY99 HUB - Technical Query & Help !!!!!!!!!

Hi,

My car (MY99 Turbo) has been at the Subaru garage now for nearly two weeks. It went in for a front NS "wheel bearing and seal" and whilst replacing this they found that the hub had become damaged.

Can continually driving with a knackered wheel bearing
(maybe with melted grease) for 1000miles damage the hub ?

What is the hub and what relationship does it have with the wheel bearing, discs etc ? Just so that I can try to understand what has happened.

Any info, advice and similar experiences would be welcomed.

Thanks.

Wheel bearing runs inside the hub.

The hub is the big lump everything bolts on to (eg. Disk, driveshaft, suspension, track rod and wheel).

If the bearing has collapsed it is possible the hub is scored or damaged where the bearing seats :(

If the bearing has collapsed it is possible the hub is scored or damaged where the bearing seats .............. in which case you'd need new hub, bearing, possibly CV, maybe drive flange, disc, and so the list goes on.
Tip No 1, if the bearings noisey, get it fixed!!
