Sunday Trading (work in shop)
The shop I work in is about to start trading on Sundays.
Am I entitled to a better wage for that day (double time, etc) or is it now considered a normal working day? |
I think you are entitled to double pay, etc, if you have already worked the 37.5 hours the rest of the week, or else it's considered just another working day.
This was something I was told by someone who works at Waterstones. It may be different where you work. |
Put it this way, you should NOT be disadvantaged by not wanting to work on Sunday - ie you refuse, they can't just sack you.
There is no legislation (other than minimum wage) regarding what you may/may not get paid for working a sunday - though many company's incentivise it. |
What does your contract say ?
Mon - Fri ? 37.5 hours a week ? Overtime @1.5 over 37.5 ? Annualised hours ? Any change to it has to be agreed by both parties & not enforced by one of them. D |
If your oringinal contract did not specify sunday working, you cannot be made to do it,
if you get the you must do it or else, it can be construed as constructive dismissal get down to the local CAB asap they can advise, or ring your local ukas rep mart |
