I know what the mintex ones are, but what about the DS2000 ferodo pads?

You can check the pad shape too!!

But you'll have to file the holes for the split pins!!

to be pedantic......................FCP817 is the correct part number..........
the suffix (in this case "H") only refers to the compound used
"H" is the ferodo code for DS2500.......................carry in stock!!!

Out of interest, what other options (and part #'s) are available for Ian's 335mm kit?

Ozzy, if you mean the 335 kit that uses the standard calipers, then they're XJS pads, all you need to do is file the holes a bit so that the big split pins fit, having done a trackday last week, I now have wedge shape pads, and squeel, so I'm gonna stick with cheapo pads from now on, I realise they won't be as good, but at nearly £100 for even the mintex 1144's, I can't afford to wreck a set of pads on each track day, any car shop should be able to supply XJS pads, so there ya go!!

How are the pads wedge shaped? I dont understand what you mean mate?

The 'extra' bit that basically has no pistons pushing on it hasn't worn at the same rate as the bit that does, it's not just one pad either, all four front ones have done this!! and they're not even half worn, still, it was a damn good day!! no fade etc......

I see what you mean now. I'm thinking the same as you regarding the cheaper pads as I dont want to blow more track day money that could be put to better use.

I'm also wondering on the possible effects on the callipers and pistons if the pad back plates are not at 90 deg to the pistons?

If part of the pad is not doing as much work, would it not be an idea to use the normal size pads that the 4 pots use? Or, will this reduce performance significantly?

If the pad backplate is not square to the piston, the seals will be unhappy!!
hence my changing the pads as soon as I got home, I don't think the using the original size pads is an option, cos you'll end up with uneven disc wear, that is assuming you want to use the full size ones at some point, I guess if you were to use standard ones ALL the time it'd be ok, dunno what performance would be lost though, a fair bit I'd guess, could be worth a try if you have the standard pads, just to try.......... let us know!!

If I get chance this weekend I might give it a go to see what performance loss I get. This all depends on what her-in-doors has decided I am doing!!!

Will there be any performance loss if this part of the pad is not doing it's job anyway?

I know they are XJS pads, but did the XJS have different pad shapes. It would be good to have a list of suitable pads and the relevant part#'s to make life a bit easier.

So far the performance ones available are

Mintex M1144 and M1155 , EBC and Ferodo DS2500 , 4003 and DS3000


and hopefully soon the pagid blues


You can use the standard sized Subaru pads but the performance loss is quite noticable as you loose quite a lot of pad , the pads do work on the overlap , try bending a pad , you wont , but is obviously not under as much pressure as it is in line with the piston

Do you have any options for the new STI's with the Brembo calipers? Thinking of trading in my car and would like to know the options other than Subaru prices :)

Oh, and if I were to sell your kit, is it easy to take the car back to normal or is it better just to sell my calipers with the spacers in tact?
