Hi All
Not that mine is, i dont think, but how would you tell its on its way out? Smoke, noise, certain behaviour from engine?

Thanks

I'm also interested in hearing any opinions on this aswell.

my MY01 wrx turbo is on its way out I think.

even when the oil is up to temp, the first time i boot it ,it sounds like ermm:confused: the best way to describe it is it sounds like a lollipop stick in some bicycle spokes, if you know what I mean, but second time of turbo use and there after is fine. but if I drive off boost for too long then go back on ,then first time I get the noise again, but fine again after.

Depends to a certain extent what the mode of failure is. Could be lack of boost, or an increasingly loud whistling noise when the car's being driven hard, or white/grey smoke out the tailpipe accompanied by a decreasing engine oil level, or, in extreme cases, clearly increased noise level from the turbo at idle speeds.

My old Montego Turbo, (don't take the piss!!!) went t*ts up, this showed by massive smoking on overrun, and after ticking over for a while, abit like failing valve stem oil seals. My 420 gsi turbo went too (unlucky are'nt I) this showed up up by a metallic clicking on boost, due to a crack in the turbine housing which the impeller was just touching. Hoe this helps a bir!!

The last time my montegos turbo went, it put F1 cars to shame. I completely obliterated the Tay road bridge in smoke. Than god it was 1am.;)
