200.5bhp is that it!!!
 
after a recent rolling road session my 94 wrx wagon made a dissapointing 200.5bhp and 188 ft lbs, it has a tsl firestorm back box and green panel filter fitted, the operator said the graph seemed to drop off very quickly (fueling problems mentioned) so as remedial action i have fitted a wallbro 255lph fuel pump and have a new set of iridium plugs to try has anyone got any other suggestions that might be worth a go!!

it could be a host of things

I'd check all the turbo hoses, as the turbo generates the majority of the power if that is leaking then that would explaing the lack of horses. New spark plugs but no new coil packs? maybe a couple of them have split, put the car in ECU check mode (black plugs under the dashboard) and see if there are any error codes.

Are the only mods what you've already listed?

Rolling road aside, what does it feel like to drive?

Have you got a boost and AFR gauge? Would be useful to know what the boost's doing throughout the rev range, and what the is AFR is during WOT.

Are you running it on the correct fuel + octane booster? If not, it's possible the ECU's pulled as much timing as it can, to cater for the low octane, but it may well be detting. Have you got a Knocklink...?

If there's a boost problem, check all the relevant pipes for splits, clean the wastegate solenoid, check the dump valve. Is your oil level halfway between min and max...?

If there's an AFR problem, check all the relevant pipes for splits, clean (or replace) the MAF, plus check/replace spark plugs, coil packs, etc.

An ECU reset might be worth a go as well...

it has a vta dumpvalve but it had its characteristics before i fitted it

it surges along in fourth and fifth, if i floor it then let off it seems quicker just as i lift off for a split second but if i hold the throttle just off the floor it doesnt go aswell :confused:

no gauges fitted as yet

not got a knocklink fitted yet, im running optimax + octane booster

oil is just below max line not hole and pipes seem ok (havent a clue how to clean boost solenoid

all pipes seem fine, as for cleaning maff is it just a case of take unit apart blow brake cleaner on thin wire and put back together? + new plugs to be fitted shortly

reset ecu a fortnight ago to no avail!

Check your boost solenoid, this could be clogged and loosing you boost at around 4k rpm (so no real power above that).

What would the "at the wheels" figure be for a 200bhp flywheel?

Just wondering if the 200 could feasibly be the wheels figure, cos our local RR won't quote a flywheel figure and will only estimate it.

Could this be a possibility or am I way off? :D

Remember this is a WRX wagon (has the td04 turbo and 220ps from the factory)
Id stick by what i say, its probably the boost solenoid (easy to clean :D) as ive had a similar problem where the boost drops off by peak due to clogging.

Its at the fly, they dont give you a torque reading@wheels.

is it a case of pulling all the pipes off squirting the holes with brake cleaner and the pipes then goin for a blast? :D

connect the green under dash connectors to put the car into "test mode". This will make the boost solenoid click. Then pull off the 3 pipes and spray the cleaner in there...

im assuming that the boost solenoid is the brass coloured thing mounted to the drivers side front suspension strut (whats the red and black thing with the 2 pipes running to it above the brass thing with 3 pipes?) :D

also is there a easy way to get to it as my air box is in the way and all the pipes are tight going to it giving me grief getting them off (do i leave the ignition on (in test mode) whilst disconnecting the pipes?/spraying brake cleaner in it?)

If this fails to resolve your problem

Another possible cause I've seen before.

Have you had a cam belt change recently,
If so it is just possible you are 1 or 2 teeth out.

Could give you a low figure and stange boost/throttle response.

If you get a slight pull as you lift off from wot, get you fueling cheaked. Could be running lean, then going rich as you lift slightly.

cheers for the advice guys, i cleaned the boost solenoid out whithin a inch of its life and havent noticed any change, as for cambelt good suggestion, it has just turned to 60000 miles and therefore is due for a new one :( ( how much should i be prepared to pay :eek: )
