Wey hey. My 1st attempted scam Nigeria Stylee

I sell clothing on eBay and have my 1st attempt to scam me from Nigeria.

I felt like the only person on SN who'd not had this tried on them ;). I feel honoured now LOL.

It goes like this:

I am selling some designer jeans on ebay. They're £140 normally but I can get them for much less so I sell them at a decent price on ebay.

Anyway, I get this email (written in terrible English)from someone in Nigeria saying he owns a boutique there and is interested in buying 20 pairs.

I'm obvoiusly sceptical but go along with it and quote him a price inclusive of shipping. He agrees and asks if he can pay by Western Union Money Transfer.

Yes, I say.

Next comes this email:

hello seller i know by now you must have received the approval
confirmation? of wich i have received mine. this is the address you are
going to send item to:
name:kolawole kolawole
address:30,eyiowuawi street ifako ijaiye
city:agege
zipcode:23401
country:nigeria
send the item today 7/420004/ via UPs, i have included the shipping
money on the payment advise if there any problem.
do have a nice day.
get back to me with the tracking number

Like I'm going to send a grand's worth of clothing without the cold, hard cash in my sweaty hands LOL.

Not even a remotely clever attempt.

I'll string him along for the sport of it I think.

Suggest they chase up Western Union as the funds have not been released and you will not release the goods without cleared funds having been recieved.

You may want to checkout http://www.419eater.com/ for some ideas ;)

My reply:

Hello.

Do you have a ref number from Western Union? I haven't received anything from them and am obviously unable to send you the agreed merchandise until I receive email confirmation from them that the funds are in place.

Once I receive the email I will send out the goods.

I now await some bodge copy of an email from the Western Union. Either that or I won't hear from him again.

Quality, FP.

How stupid must these people think sellers are? Or are they hoping the promise of easy money will blind them?

I think you should see how far you can take it......

David Lock 07 April 2004 06:06 PM

Tell him you've now got the money :D That should get him thinking :D :D

The funny thing is they do this because some gumbos actually fall for it. Some people really are that thick !!!!

Perhaps some 'George at Asda' jeans?

Should go down well.

Might screw your positive feedback on Ebay though Fatherpierre ;)

Hello

Well, in that case why don't you reply saying that it is customary that he sends you not only the money but one of his young female relatives as a sign of trust.

Steve.

fatherpierre 08 April 2004 11:59 AM

I'd have to see her 1st........

I've just found out he's registered in the UK???????? But, of course, he has no feedback and is newly registered.

Loving the google ads for this one.

Perhaps we can afford to call him to talk it through?

Nikko2 08 April 2004 03:14 PM

There was a great thread like this running on the DVDforums a while back.

He ended up sending a picture of a mobile phone in a box along with some unpleasant things. A value of a few hundred dollars was put on the customs forms so the buyer had to stump up some some money to collect his box of poop.....
