Under bonnet wax/clean up
 

I'm thinking of cleaning under the bonnet of my scooby but the dealer recommended not to saying that from new the car was waxed/waxoiled or coated in something or other in the engine bay to protect all the engine components etc from corrosion.

It looks kind of green, sticky residue now together with the dirt and dust built up after 4 and a bit years so I obviously would like to clean it up but not if it has a detrimental effect.

What do you reckon? Car is stock by the way so theres nothing exciting to show offf I just like a clean engine bay.

Contact Mark at Swissol, they do products which easily removes this. They also do a kit which cleans and protects the engine and panitwork afterwards. Some other guys on here have claimed that Halfords do an engine cleaning product which is also effective

That residue is called 'cosmoline' (or similar). Removing it during a clean-up shouldn't do any harm provided you replace it with something else.

The product sold by Halfords which is often mentioned is CD2. It's a degreaser, but I don't know if it includes a protector as well. The kit sold by Mark definitely does include the protector.

CD2 will bring it up a treat , consists of two cans , one gets the cr*p off and the second shines and protects to keep it looking good , as said above available from Halfords

I did mine this weekend, CD2 from Halfords, Looks the nutz, excellent results

When you use this CD2 stuff do you jetwash it with cold or hot water?
What parts of the engine bay NEED to be covered/protected from the CD2 and water?

I just hosed mine off with cold water.
You need to protect the air filter (if you have an induction kit), alarm and the altenator. If you use a power washer thingy, you must cover the intercooler :D

Used cold water ,it does tell you what to do on the tin , but I think I covered the alternator,alarm,intercooler, and the front belts etc when using the varnish/wax stuff
