Google Search

My web site has finally appeared on google after about 2 months, thing is it's 6 pages into the search:mad:. How would I go about getting it onto the 1st or 2nd page? Does it move up places with the amount of hits your site gets or how much money you give google:D?

Having other sites listed on google link to yours helps a lot.

Contact the guys who did the photos for my website

http://www.vr360homes.co.uk/villas/jordan/index.htm#

They seem to be getting me a lot of calls. The 360 degree tours are especially popular ;)

Alt tags are the way the big boys ensure the bots do their work... Alt tag everything :D.

Edit:

Tim, without wishing to to diss' your website there are a few things I would change... *waits for slap round face*.

The photos are not very professional - some are blurry and you have not enabled a slideshow so it is very tiresome to have to keep hitting the back button and then the next thumbnail. Also, you have not staged the photographs very well either... the one thing that jumped out at me was the bag of compost by the back door, a bag of rubbish by the front door in the lounge and a pile of chairs out back. First impressions are very important, especially if you are trying to gain customers from your website which you obviously are.

I would invite your family and friends over - have a party in the back garden in the summer with everyone smiling, having fun. Show people in the lounge having fun (dont show people in the bedrooms having fun!) - however, you could have something like Mum and daughter sat on bed reading a book or similar... having fun but also giving impression of peace, harmony and relaxation.

The whole feel of the site is very 'home pagey' - it should really eminate 'we mean business'. There are many websites whereby you can download professional web templates that look fantastic... giving you that professional edge.

Hope you don't take all that the wrong way - could mean loss of sales me thinks.

Karen x

Thanks for the input Soulgirl;)

The website was never meant to be a major source of business as we very nearly fill the property all season from regular customers, it was just on the off chance that we would fill a few weeks that we didn’t last year. And as it’s the first web site I have ever built and me being crap with these computer thingies, it’s not a half bad attempt I think:D;). The pictures were took by our caretaker and e-mailed to us and to be honest we weren’t entirely happy with them but I aint driving a 700 mile round trip to take a couple of snapshots:D.

So looking at it if we only get one booking from it, it has paid it’s self of many times over as all we shelled out for it was £4.99 for the domain name.

Might take some new photos next time we go down, but as it is so far away its not just a mater of hoping into the car for half an hour you’re taking nearly a 12 hour round trip.

Thanks again, and I will take those points into consideration when we go down there next.

Tim.

BTW whats an ALT tag???:confused::D

stevencotton 08 April 2004 01:31 PM

Alt tags are used for images, did you mean meta tags rather than alt? It displays the specified text on text-based browsers, or those browser with images turned off.

To control robots one uses a robots.txt file, you can get info on that at www.robotstxt.org

What do you think Tim.. your welcom to the source files if you want them.... just a matter of cut and pasting all your text etc into the corresponding htm pages that are with the template.
