Done a report on the above and was wondering if anyone has got good or bad experiences with any of the above???

I need to add experiences of these and specific views, whether good or bad!

Hoping some uz can help me out if uz have used them....

Cheers...

What are you trying to do?

The product you purchase really depends on what you want to do.

NT4.0 is most likely now unsupported by Microsoft. 2000 is very stable and easy to maintain. Don't know a huge amount about 2003 as we have only just got our first 2003 server :)

As mentioned above, NT4 is obsolete, though with careful search you will still find stuff for backward compatibity. 2000 servers are pretty much stable as most organisations are on it, plus it's support for COM+ is an advantage for modern day programs. 2003 servers are new age and weel built for dotnet applications as well as previous apps, but how stable it is, is yet to be explored.

Spot a student doing an assignment perhaps? ;)

NT4 - long in the tooth now. No more full service packs from MS. Incident and security hotfix support ends Dec 2004 (at present). That said, I still know plenty of sites running NT4 servers (big enterprises and small businesses)

W2000 - Now tried and tested. MS Mainstream supported till Mar 2005 (extended support until Mar 2007). Solid product when installed and managed properly.

W2003 - Somewhat early days but I'm impressed so far. Few things to trip you up if you're used to W2000.

As chris..

We still have a few servers on NT4 (ie domain controllers)

Print servers on 2k3 are sh1t.. having major problems with it.. Havent had time to look yet though..

We have around 70 servers on this site and the same at another office.. at a rough guess..

Majority running 2000 SP3, clustering looks good on 2k3 though :D as does DNS and DHCP.
